CAMPBELL — A verbal dispute between two men earlier this month in downtown Campbell ended with one intentionally hitting the other with a car and driving away, according to police.
The incident happened around 9:35 p.m. on April 17 outside Cardiff & Cocktails at 260 East Campbell Avenue, the Campbell Police Department said in a news release Monday.
The victim was taken to Valley Medical Center and released the next day in “good condition,” according to police.
Detectives used video surveillance footage and automated license plate readers to link the suspected vehicle, described as a black BMW, to 24-year-old San Jose resident Mardin Gevargiz, police said.
The victim also identified Gevargiz as the driver of the BMW, according to police.
On Friday, officers arrested Gevargiz without incident at his home on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury and illegally possessing an assault rifle, police said.
Officers later served him with a gun violence restraining order, which bars him from having, owning or buying any guns, gun parts or magazines, according to police.
As of Monday, Gevargiz remained in custody at the Main Jail in San Jose, police said.
