Chelsea Women have clinched the Women’s Super League (WSL) title for the sixth season in a row after their 1-0 win over Manchester United.
Sonia Bompastor’s side have dominated the top-flight of women’s football this term and haven’t lost any of their 20 games as they look to complete an Invincible season.
They have just two top-flight fixtures remaining – against Tottenham and Liverpool – after Lucy Bronze scored in Wednesday’s away win over United.
Chelsea won the Women’s League Cup earlier this season and will hope to land a domestic treble when they face United again in the Women’s FA Cup final on May 18.
Bompastor was only appointed manager of the club a year ago – with the Frenchwoman replacing Emma Hayes – who had been in charge for 12 years before she left for the United States (USWNT) job.
Chelsea, captained by England’s Millie Bright, have a number of Lionesses in their squad including Bronze, Keira Walsh, Hannah Hampton, Niamh Charles and Aggie Beever-Jones – who all started on Wednesday night.
Bompastor spoke to Sky Sports after Chelsea wrapped up the title and said: ‘It’s a great achievement. It feels a bit unreal. We were not expecting Arsenal to drop points tonight (against Aston Villa).
‘Being able to bounce back from Sunday (their Women’s Champions League exit to Barcelona) and win against a big team in Manchester United feels amazing.
‘I told my team it is a big opportunity tonight to make a step closer to the title. I’m so proud of my players, all the staff, all the team, all the club. To be able to achieve that with two games left is a big achievement.
‘I knew we had to fight until the end. For us to still be unbeaten and achieve what we just achieved is really good.

‘Not easy to come as a new manager to a new country to adjust to a new league. I learned a lot but I have a great bunch of players and great staff.
‘This league is really competitive. For some people they just think being Chelsea it is really easy to achieve that. It’s not. We work really hard.
‘We had the right mindset from the beginning of the season until now. I’m really happy for that, really pleased for that.’
Chelsea defender Bronze, meanwhile, is adamant that the club can register a domestic treble this season.
‘Yes, definitely,’ she said. ‘The exciting thing is that it (the FA Cup final) is against United as well.
‘They are a tough team, they fought hard tonight and are still fighting for things in the league as well.
‘We face them in two weeks time at Wembley, should be an exciting game. We are looking forward to it.’
Chelsea Women are back in action on Sunday with a trip to Spurs in their penultimate WSL match of the season.
