If there’s one actress people feel entitled to gossip about and objectify, it’s Sydney Sweeney.
The bombshell has been the subject of relentless romance rumours ever since she rose to A-list fame, seemingly unable to be in a room with a man without people assuming she’s having sex with him.
Most recently, she was seen with her Housemaid co-star Brandon Sklenar, with footage of the pair singing to Creed at Stagecoach music festival going viral.
The video is short, but 11 seconds of what seems to be two friends enjoying a moment together has sparked an explosion of rumours that the pair are an item.
I can’t help but watch in amazement as people work themselves into a state, trying to piece together clues about who Sydney is dating.
Alas, it seems for Sydney at least, a woman can’t be friendly with male friends, or even colleagues, without people elbowing each other with a ‘wink, wink, nudge, nudge’.

The rumours come amid speculation that Sydney has split from her fiancé Jonathan Davino.
The Euphoria actress, 27, and her businessman fiancé got engaged in 2022 but haven’t been seen together publicly since January.

Before leaving for Paris fashion week in March, the actress had been staying in the Beverly Hills Hotel since around the middle of February – and her partner had not been part of the stay.
TMZ also reported that the couple had postponed their May wedding, blaming their busy schedules for the delay in the celebrations.
However, the original split rumours emerged around the same time as everyone (it felt like literally everyone) was rooting for Sydney and her previous co-star, Glen Powell, to date.
The pair, who starred in rom-com Anyone But You together, made headlines after they both attended Glen’s sister’s wedding in March, shortly after original reports of Sydney’s split from Jonathan.
Glen and Syndey had already sparked dating rumors after cozy pictures emerged during filming in 2023, but fans went into overdrive over this recent reunion.

So why is Sydney Sweeney so frequently subjected to relentless speculation about dating each of her co-stars – even though she’s never even confirmed the end of her engagement?
It’s all part of a larger phenomenon surrounding the actress — one where people feel entitled to treat her with the cultural mindset of 2005 simply because she’s a sex symbol who’s comfortable wearing low-cut dresses.
As absurd as this idea sounds, many people do treat Sydney as if she represents a return to the days of Page 3 glamour models and the gleeful consumption of leaked nude photos of female celebrities.
This is best encapsulated by a viral X post last year, which read ‘wokeness is dead’, alongside a picture of the actress on SNL in a busty dress.

A Canadian publication followed with a truly hot take, which read: ‘We’ve spent years being chastised for desiring or admiring beauty – so we’ve been scolded to accept by today’s diversity, equity, and inclusion fanatics. We aren’t supposed to admire Sweeney’s beauty; but we’ve done it anyways. The times, they are a-changin’. Aren’t they?’
Apparently we’ve been a part of a culture that has turned a cold shoulder to big breasted, thin, white, blonde women in the name of political correctness but finally, we are allowed to lust after Sydney Sweeney.
And with all of that, social media users have gathered in their hundreds of thousands, ready to comment on her body, dating life, and sexuality in a way that nowadays is (thankfully) slightly more rare for other famous women – but when it comes to Sydney there are crickets, even among the ‘woke’ crowd.

As obvious as it should be, it’s obviously worth reiterating: A woman can be friends with a man without sleeping with him. Yes, even when she has breasts that were described as the ‘double-D harbingers of the death of woke’!
Sydney Sweeney – like any other woman – has every right to express her sexuality on her own terms, without it being misinterpreted as a signal that her actions, career choices, or relationships are driven solely by sexual intent.
The notion that a woman’s confidence in her appearance somehow diminishes her complexity or credibility is not only outdated but also deeply reductive. Being sexy does not negate intelligence, agency, or professionalism – it simply means she’s in control of how she presents herself.
While speculating about the love lives of celebrities is not uncommon, it’s worth considering why Sydney, in particular, seems to be the subject of so many of these rumours as well as other misogynistic commentary.
Feminism must include all women – even those who embrace being sex symbols – or it’s not feminism at all.
