Neighbours have described how they heard ‘horrifying screams’ and saw ‘scenes of carnage’ at an east London flat where a man was found with fatal stab wounds.

The victim, 20, was in his flat in Pickard Close, Mile End, when he was stabbed on Wednesday afternoon.

Paramedics carried him out of his home and tried to save him, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbour Tofayel Ahmed, 36, told Metro: ‘I heard horrifying screams and looked out to see what was going on. There was a girl with blood all over her. She also had a chunk of flesh missing – it was carnage.

‘Someone was shouting “no, no, no.” The paramedics arrived and took the man out of the house. The paramedics tried to save the man but there was so much blood.

‘I haven’t been able to sleep the images keep coming back. The guy who died seemed a decent person. His motorbike is still parked outside. It all seems unreal, seeing the blood it was like a scene from a horror movie. ‘

A boy, 17, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Investigators believe the victim and suspect were known to each other.

Any Zaadane, 24, who was visiting friends when the incident unfolded told Metro: ‘It was gruesome. To think that young people like me are involved is awful. To see that crime scene is very upsetting. The paramedics did their best, it’s so sad.’

Flowers and sweets have been left near the crime scene as a tribute to the victim.

Forensics officers are scouring for clues at the address while detectives are interviewing neighbours and collecting cctv footage from around the area.

A crime scene tent marking the spot where the fatally injured man was treated remains in place this morning.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Service said: “Detectives are investigating the circumstances of a fatal stabbing in Mile End. On Wednesday, 30 April at 13:28hrs police were called to an address in Pickard Gardens, E3 following reports of a stabbing.
