Outbound Kennedy Expressway ramp closures begin May 19
Four outbound ramps of the Kennedy Expressway will close for repaving later in May as part of a three-year overhaul of the highway.
The Illinois Department of Transportation said closures will begin, weather permitting, on:
Monday, May 19, from Ogden Avenue to the outbound Kennedy, for about one week.
Wednesday, May 21, from the outbound Kennedy to Division Street, for about one week.
Monday, May 26, from the outbound Kennedy to Ohio Street, for about one week.
Wednesday, May 28, from Keeler Avenue to the outbound Kennedy, for about two weeks.
Detours will be posted at each ramp.
These closures are among 19 total ramp closures expected for the 2025 phase of the $169 million renovation of the Kennedy. The project is in its last year, focusing on the outbound lanes from Ohio Street to the Edens Expressway junction. Construction of the last phase began in March and is expected to wrap up in November.
