LIVERMORE — Crews are battling a 260-acre wildfire that spread fast Thursday, throwing up visible flames and smoke near Livermore, Tracy and the junction of Interstate 580 and Interstate 205.
The Midway Fire sparked at about 3 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Patterson Pass Road and Midway Road, according to Cal Fire. As of 5 p.m., the fire was 0% contained.
Air and ground resources were battling the brush fire, which had jumped I-580, the agency said. Firefighters were holding the fire at a local aqueduct.
Officials urged residents to keep clear of the area. Interstate lanes were closed.
According to Cal Fire, four structures were threatened, and moderate wind was blowing northeast and east.
“The wildland season has begun,” the Alameda County Fire Department’s union posted on social media.
