Colorado Music Hall of Fame gets new home downtown

The Colorado Music Hall of Fame will soon move to downtown’s Colorado Convention Center, following a decade at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and a months-long search for a new home.

The Hall’s exhibits, including memorabilia from Colorado music stars such as John Denver, will relocate later this year to the city-owned facility, where visitors can see installations adjacent to the Bellco Theatre Lobby and box office of the convention center.

The new home features “larger, upgraded, interactive exhibit space being planned for the future in a different area of the [convention center],” executive director Karen Radman said in a statement. “This new home … places The Hall in the core of our capital city’s artistic and civic life, allowing us to reach a broader audience and expand our programming.”

Founded in 2011, the Colorado Music Hall of Fame is best known for its concerts and induction ceremonies of groundbreaking and popular state musicians, including Joe Walsh, Dan Fogelberg, Lannie Garrett, Hazel Miller, Otis Taylor and Poco (see the full list at cmhof.org.)

The Hall’s annual budget has jumped since the pandemic, last year landing at roughly $400,000, while revenue hit $270,000 thanks to donations, services and other forms of income.

The Hall’s collaboration with the city signals their shared values and creativity, said Scott Tobias, co-chair and co-founder. “By establishing The Hall in the Colorado Convention Center, we’re emphasizing not just the critical role the music industry plays in Colorado, but the importance of Colorado music around the world,” he said in a statement.

Nearly 800,000 people visit the convention center each year, giving the Hall a larger potential audience than its former home at Red Rocks’ Trading Post. The Hall also added a slew of new board members, according to its website, including industry professionals, promoters such as Live Nation, and representatives of Denver Arts & Venues and the Women’s Chamber of Commerce.
