Major delay affects BART commuters following unscheduled track maintenance

Unscheduled track maintenance early Wednesday caused BART commuters to experience major delays and officials to close portions on two of its travel lines, according to the agency.

The delay affected trains on BART’s San Francisco line. BART single-tracked those trains between the Montgomery and 16th St. Mission stations.

BART closed part of its red line between Richmond and Millbrae, as well as part of its green-line service between the Berryessa and MacArthur stations until about 6:20 a.m. All fifty BART stations remained open, even as those travel lines were affected, according to agency spokesperson Chris Filippi.

Major delays of at least 20 minutes remained after BART re-opened those lines.

BART has endured several commute issues in the past month. A fire near the tracks closed service between the Daly City and Balboa Park stations on May 27. That closure on the day BART opened after a week-long closure of the green line caused by a fire on the tracks near the San Leandro station.

The troubles began on May 9 when BART’s entire system closed down for more than five hours after a network connectivity issue with the agency’s computer system prevented operators in the control system from seeing all of the trains on the tracks.
