Renée Zellweger Gives Update If There Will Be More ‘Bridget Jones’ Movies

For most of us, we hate to see our favorite film and TV worlds disappear. Whether it’s “Friends,” “This Is Us,” “Stranger Things,” or “Ginny & Georgia,” we immerse ourselves in these characters, families, and fictional places. The idea of ending the story is heartbreaking.

Therefore, we can understand that Renée Zellweger and “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” director Michael Morris hope that the fourth film in the series isn’t the end. With two new love interests, the return of Hugh Grant as Daniel Cleaver, and two kids who haven’t even reached their teen years, they’re both hoping there’s more to tell.

Renée Zellweger Is Open to a ‘More’ Bridget Jones Movie: ‘Fingers Crossed’

“My understanding was that this was kind of it, but I keep my fingers crossed that she might want to share some more of her own experiences through the world of Bridget,” Zellweger said.

“Me too,” Morris chimed in. “And look who we’ve got: Chiwetel Ejiofor in the world now, and we’ve got Leo Woodall in the world now. We’ve got all these fantastic people and Helen’s got her life, her kids are going to college. Let’s hope for more chapters.”

If “Bridget Jones” author Helen Fielding decided to write more stories, it wouldn’t be with precedent. There was a 14-year gap between the third book, “The Edge of Reason,” and “Mad About the Boy.”

“I found last spring I had new stuff I wanted to say,” she told Radio 4. “Things that didn’t exist when I last wrote, like emails and texting. The way life is lived through Twitter. And a whole new idea for a phase of her life that I can’t jinx by describing it.”

‘Bridget Jones’ Author Has Given Glimmer of Hope on Future of the Character

Fielding has discussed Bridget’s relevance to all women, and she has noticed that more Gen Z individuals are finding something in common with the character. “I can see why they relate to Bridget, because they’re emotionally authentic, nice,” she told Bazaar. “It’s very touching the way they have all these little rituals that are very Bridget like to me, where Bridget would have like, the vodka, the ice cream, the pyjamas, they’ve got their protein powders and bedtime rituals that they’ve seen on Tiktok. It’s still the creation of their own cosy worlds.”

There is hope that more will be written about Bridget Jones, coming straight from Fielding. Just last year, she confirmed to The Times that she was writing a new book. “Not a Bridget one, but there’s always a chance it could turn into one,” she said. “But I’m very protective of Bridget, so any book about her has to have integrity and emotional honesty.”
