Rob Lowe Reveals His Go-To Workout Song and It’s an ‘80s Banger

Rob Lowe recently shared the one song he plays while working out. “It’s the cheesiest thing in the world, but ‘Eye of the Tiger,’” the “9-1-1: Lone Star” actor admitted to People. Lowe’s workout jam was released in 1982 by the band Survivor and was the theme for “Rocky III.”

“If I want to knock off a set of 20…or go for a max bench press, I’ve got to have that on,” Lowe said of the Grammy-winning hit. “You can’t go wrong.”

While “Eye of the Tiger” helps Lowe through some of his tougher workouts, he says he normally doesn’t listen to music at all when working on his fitness, especially while running. “…if I’m out on a run, I don’t want music in. I want to hear the wind, I want to hear my feet,” the “Parks and Recreation” actor said. “Also, I don’t want anybody sneaking up on me from behind.”

Lowe may prefer to “rawdog” his workouts sans music, but sometimes it can’t be avoided. “If there’s music on in the gym, I listen to that,” he explained. “ And when I’m doing long-term cardio — if I’m on the elliptical or if I’m on the Peloton or doing incline stuff — I’ll put music on…”

At 61, Lowe prioritizes his fitness and counts himself lucky that he actually enjoys physical activities, both in and out of the gym. “It might be a paddle in the ocean, a hike, running sprints on the track, pickleball, tennis. I’m pretty much up for anything,” he shared. It seems the real challenge for Lowe is allowing himself some true down time. “I really have to push myself to say, no, no, this is the day where it’s okay to sit on the couch…”

Lowe began his acting career in the early 1980s, and he shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. The actor has always been known for his good looks, and if a project comes his way that requires him to be in peak physical shape, he’s already most of the way there.

Ahead of his 60th birthday, Lowe shared with People that he is as vigilant about his diet as he is about his workouts. The reason? He has a killer sweet tooth. “I have plenty of willpower right up until the moment that I have absolutely no willpower,” he explained.

Temptations aside, Lowe is very disciplined when it comes to his health and he claims, “I feel better than I’ve ever felt. And I think part of it is because I’m more cognizant of self-care.”
