When Jenna Bush Hager mentioned a report about women embracing life without marriage, Bibb smiled: “Listen, you’re speaking to the choir.”

She added lovingly, “I love Sam Rockwell. I would put him in my pocket and carry him with me all the time. I love him — I do not want to get married.”

Bush Hager asked if marriage came up early in their relationship. Bibb recalled that it did — and that Rockwell teased her about it.

“He kept saying, ‘Really, you don’t want to get married?’” Bibb laughed. “‘Stop asking me as if I’m gonna pull a sneak on you.’ But he didn’t want it either.”

As for why? Bibb offered a simple, heartfelt truth: “Maybe it’s probably something about the way we grew up, but I feel like — if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

She also shared that becoming a mom wasn’t something she ever wanted for herself. “I just don’t have that chip in me,” she said.

Later on TODAY, Rockwell joined Bibb on the couch and reflected on the early days of their romance.

“We had that kind of thunderbolt, like Dream Weaver moment in Wayne’s World when we saw each other,” Rockwell said.

He was also delighted to learn they’d both studied at the same acting school. “That was really handy,” he smiled. Bibb laughed as she remembered her first impression: “I thought you were really cute — and I pretended I didn’t know who you were.”

Their first date turned into an all-day affair. Rockwell recalled: “We ended up having dinner after our day date went so well.”

“You were single, you were ready to mingle,” Bibb teased him. “And I just put my little talons in and said, ‘No, you’re mine.’”

“And they’re still in,” Rockwell replied with a grin.

For Bibb and Rockwell, happiness looks just like this: perfectly imperfect and wonderfully theirs.
