The San Francisco 49ers have some exciting young talent at cornerback in 2025, but not necessarily the same star power that they have had at the position in the past.
Their biggest star Charvarius Ward, who made a Pro Bowl with San Francisco in 2023, just left town to sign with the Indianapolis Colts in the offseason. So, it’s natural to assume that the unit would regress in 2025.
But one major NFL insider thinks the opposite: that the 49ers have one of the best CB duos in the league. In an article released on Wednesday June 18, 2025, Moe Moton of Bleacher Report predicted that the 49ers would have the ninth best starting CB duo in the NFL in 2025.
He awarded that distinction to 49ers cornerbacks Deommodore Lenoir and Renardo Green, who are predicted to start on the boundary for the 49ers this season.
Renardo Green Predicted to Make Pro Bowl
Moton was especially bold in his assessment of second-year 49ers star Renardo Green.
Green was drafted in the second round, 64th overall by the 49ers in the 2024 NFL draft out of Florida State University. His numbers during his Florida State career didn’t jump off the page, with only one career interception in five seasons from 2019-2023, but the 49ers believed in his potential.
Green rewarded that belief, playing in all 17 games for the 49ers last season. He even took over as the starter midway through the season, starting 7 games.
And despite his limited role early, he was still able to lead the 49ers in pass breakups with 13. He also recorded his first NFL interception in Week 6 against the Seattle Seahawks.
Moton thinks that in a full season as the starter, and with a proven elite coach in defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, Green could put up the kind of season that will earn him one of the NFL’s highest honors.
“With a full season in a starting role, the Florida State product, 24, has the potential to post Pro Bowl numbers,” Moton wrote.
Especially after Ward’s departure, there’s nothing that 49ers fans would love to see more than Ward in the Pro Bowl.
Moton Calls Lenoir Underrated
By contrast, Deommodore Lenoir has been in the league for four seasons now. Entering his fifth season in San Francisco, Lenoir has not received Pro Bowl consideration or any other NFL honors to indicate his stardom.
But, as Moton pointed out, he has great ball skills and improves every season, allowing a lower passer rating year after year.
Lenoir sure likes to talk a big game; he has been chirping back and forth with Seattle Seahawks stars all offseason on social media.
So if Lenoir takes another leap in production, you can bet he will let people know about it.
And, Lenoir is still only 25 years old, just a year older than Green. So he has plenty of time left in his physical prime to grow as a player.
So what do 49ers fans think? Can Lenoir and Green live up to their potential and have superstar caliber seasons in 2025?
