The Miami Dolphins are all but confirmed to be trading Jalen Ramsey. But the obvious contenders for his services; his former team, the Los Angeles Rams; have purported “obstacles” in front of them in the potential future acquisition of the three-time All-Pro cornerback.
So, if not the Rams, then who?
Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon has an immediate answer, predicting that the Arizona Cardinals will make a move for Ramsey at some point ahead of the NFL trade deadline in November – although it is likely that he will be dealt well before that point.
Jalen Ramsey Projected To End Up With A Different NFC West Team
Gagnon suggests that an ascending Arizona team whose head coach, Jonathan Gannon, is entering a critical third year, may look to make an aggressive play for the one-time fourth overall pick.
“The NFC West could be wide open this year, and the up-and-coming Cardinals could be in the thick of it if Kyler Murray and Marvin Harrison Jr. can make a leap together.” Gagnon wrote, “That could leave the cap-rich Cards in position to be buyers to improve a still-evolving defense at the deadline, and it would make a lot of sense for them to pursue Ramsey to bolster a secondary that has already lost Sean Murphy-Bunting for the season.
It’s still possible the Dolphins stick with the 30-year-old seven-time Pro Bowler, but a trade has seemingly been in the works for a while. Plus, they appear to be losing ground to Buffalo and other key AFC rivals, and they could be out of it at this point. Of course, there’s also a chance Ramsey is dealt long before we hit the deadline. In which case, we are still looking at Arizona as a prime potential landing spot.”
If the Cardinals feel that rookie second round pick, Will Johnson, is not ready to start out of the gun, taking on Ramsey could be a smart move in 2025, although the ex-Ram does come with an additional three years on his deal – all of which have a minimum of a $25 million cap hit.
But for a team who are rapidly entering the “now or never” portion of quarterback, Kyler Murray’s career, there is a strong argument to say that the franchise should do all they can to give Gannon and Murray the optimal chance of success.
Are The Dolphins Certainly Trading Jalen Ramsey?
Nothing is certain, but it does seem to be all that signs remain to point in that direction, despite the lack of action happening on the trade front.
Behind the scenes, it is more than likely that general manager, Chris Grier, is continuing to work on making a deal happen to optimize the return compensation for the 30-year old’s services.
With the Rams not being the only team interested in acquiring Ramsey, the trade does not totally hinge on the desires and valuation of one franchise. But if the Dolphins decide, ultimately that no team is willing to take on enough cap and give up enough trade capital, it is conceivable that he remains a Dolphin in 2025.
