Amber Heard is making her return to the spotlight, landing her first acting role since her highly publicized legal battle.

As per a report in The Independent, the Aquaman actress has been cast in “Spirit of the People“, a new play by Slave Play creator Jeremy O. Harris.
Amber Heard Joins Ensemble Cast of ‘Spirit of the People’
It marks Heardâs first acting role since her high-profile legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp. The ensemble cast also includes “13 Reasons Why” star Brandon Flynn, along with Ato Blankson-Wood, James Cusati-Moyer, Amandla Jahava, Emma Ramos, Julian Sanchez, Zachary Booth, Tonatiuh, and LÃo Mehiel.

According to the playâs official description, Spirit of the People âconfronts uncomfortable truths about land and what it means to destroy it.â
Playwright Harris told Variety in February: âI wanted to challenge myself. The play is half in Spanish, and I donât speak Spanish. The play has a significant level of prose within it. Iâm not a prose writer. Iâm trying a lot of different things.â
Heardâs First Acting Role Since 2023 Legal Battle
Heardâs most recent screen credits include 2023âs “In the Fire” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”, though both were filmed before her widely publicized 2022 trial.

Heard and Depp divorced in 2017 after she filed for divorce a year earlier, alleging domestic abuse. Though Depp lost an earlier UK libel suit against The Sun in 2020, he later won a multimillion-dollar defamation case against Heard in 2023 after a U.S. jury ruled that her 2018 Washington Post op-ed implied he had abused her.
Depp Recently Made Comments On The High-Profile Trial
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Depp commented on the fallout from the trial, saying, in particular, former associates âdid me dirty.â

âI was with one agent for 30 years, but she spoke in court about how difficult I was,â Depp said. âThatâs death by confetti, these fake motherf***ers who lie to you, celebrate you, say all sorts of horror behind your back.â
He also added: âThere are people, and Iâm thinking of three, who did me dirty. Those people were at my kidsâ parties. Throwing them in the air.â
A New Chapter for Heard
“Spirit of the People” signals a potential new chapter for Heard, as she returns to acting after a long, tumultuous legal battle that drew worldwide attention.
The play is set to premiere this July at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Fans and industry watchers alike are curious to see how Heardâs comeback unfolds.
Heard, who relocated to Madrid after her legal battles with Johnny Depp concluded in 2022, recently shared more happy news.
On May 11, she announced the birth of her twins, Agnes and Ocean, with a sweet photo of their tiny feet on Instagram. The actress, already mom to daughter Oonagh Paige â who turned 4 in April â now seems focused on new beginnings both onstage and at home.
