Although the Miami Dolphins‘ roster leaves much to be desired, they certainly are not lacking at the edge rusher position, even though it is not out of the question that Bradley Chubb could be traded this offseason.
With first round picks, Jaelan Phillips and Chop Robinson, also on the roster alongside Chubb, it feels like edge might actually be the one position that the Dolphins are actually settled at.
Yet, Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski conjured up a trade idea on Wednesday that has Miami make a three team trade with the Arizona Cardinals and the New York Giants, which would see Kayvon Thibodeaux land in Miami and Tyreek Hill make his way to Arizona.
Dolphins Hypothesized To Add To Already-Deep Edge Rushing Group
Sobleski believes that the addition of Hill would be vastly beneficial to Cardinals quarterback, Kyler Murray, who may well be entering a “make or break” year with the franchise. And in order to facilitate this – per Sobleski – Arizona must send one of their starting tackles, Jonah Williams to the Giants, who in turn send Thibodeaux down the coast to Florida.
“In order to maximize quarterback Kyler Murray‘s capabilities, a duo of Hill and Harrison is nightmare fuel for opposing defensive coordinators.” Sobleski writes, “Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon previously served in that role, and he understands how Hill’s speed tilts the field in the offense’s favor. Despite any concerns about attitude, age or money, the eight-time Pro Bowler can make the Cardinals better.”
“… To fully entice the Dolphins and make all of this happen, the Giants move Kayvon Thibodeaux thanks to the depth they now have among their pass-rushers after selecting Abdul Carter with this year’s third overall draft pick.
While New York plans to keep Thibodeaux in the short term, he’s not likely to remain with the team beyond the 2026 campaign when his rookie deal is complete.”
Would A Thibodeaux For Hill Swap Make Sense For The Dolphins?
If you just look at each player on paper, then this does not feel like the most clear and obvious move for Miami. But it is important for fans to remember that Hill has a cap hit of nearly $28 million this season, and over $51 million in 2026, making this his likely last season in a Dolphins uniform, unless they can find a way to re-negotiate his expensive deal.
The Dolphins do not really need an edge rusher at this point in time, but the injury-wrecked Jaelan Phillips is entering the last year of his rookie deal and has never managed double digit sacks in a singular season. Equally, Chubb’s future with the organization may be in jeopardy after going on the record to state that the team
lied about their culture change last offseason.
So with Hill aged 31 and Thibodeaux just 24 with two more years on his deal, after the Giants picked up his fifth year option earlier this year, it could be a prudent decision for Miami to move off the old and onto the young – even if may not make the most sense positionally.
