When an actor is starring in a film or TV series that requires a different hairstyle or color, it’s not uncommon for wigs, hair extensions, or bald caps to be used. But not if you’re Charlize Theron. The Oscar-winning actress has gone above and beyond for many of her roles.
For her role as Furiosa in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” she could’ve opted to use a bald cap, but instead, she shaved her head. And for “The Old Guard 2,” the actress needed a mullet. Instead of throwing on a wig, she cut her hair to fit the part. Unfortunately, her daughters were less than thrilled.

The “Atomic Blonde” star is probably best known for her wavy, blond hair, which falls somewhere between ear length and shoulder length. However, when it comes to a character, she’s not afraid to alter her appearance to fit who she thinks the person is. So, when it was decided that the short hairstyle Andy wore in “The Old Guard” would’ve grown out into a mullet for the sequel, Theron got her hair styled to match.
“I know you have a loving family, you got a couple of kids. How did they feel about the mullet?” Seth Meyers asked her on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
“I have two girls, and they’re very… they’re mostly very girly,” Theron admitted. “And they think of me as a princess, and they want Mom to, like, look like a princess.”
“But they came back from school, I was in my bathroom, and I was getting it cut, and it had already been colored,” she told Meyers. “And I just remember looking over, and they both came into the room really excited, and then they just both froze.”
“And one started crying,” she added. “One literally started bawling her eyes out.”

After the mullet crisis, Theron said that she had to gently explain to her that “‘We all get to be who we want to be. And right now, Mom wants to wear a mullet,’” she recalled telling her. “‘I don’t tell you what to do with your hair.’”
Meyers then brought out a photo of Theron from a 2014 “Saturday Night Live” sketch, in which she had a mullet. “So maybe, it turns out that what we’re getting down to is, you love mullets,” he joked.
Theron told Meyers that she prefers edgy, more masculine styles. She likes jeans and a T-shirt, which her daughters also disapprove of. “When I go to school functions, my daughter is always like, ‘Mom, can you please wear a dress?’” Theron chuckled.
