Bitter Rival Gives Jets Surprisingly High Praise on National TV

A former Miami Dolphins standout delivered some surprising praise for a bitter rival.

Terron Armstead, a former second-team All-Pro, crowned the New York Jets as having the best “1-2 running back punch” heading into 2025.

“I think it’s a response year for Breece Hall. We saw the explosion early in his career, and he was derailed by injury. I think it’s this year that he takes off and he shows for him that he’s a top-five running back in this league,” Armstead said on “Good Morning Football.” “You got these weapons like Breece Hall and Braelon Allen. Braelon Allen in the short yardage game, goal line game, he’s a bruiser 6-foot-1, 230 to 240 pounds big, powerful back. I really think this 1-2 punch is the top of the league.”

Another reason Armstead is so confident in the Jets’ ability to run the football is who their quarterback is.

“I think with Justin Fields over there as well, we get more of the dynamic of that added element. You have to worry about the quarterback. So, a lot of RPOs, as we see with Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry. Those guys, it’s a lot of discipline that takes place that needs to be for the defense to stop a running quarterback,” Armstead explained.

Braelon Allen Has a Chance to Make a Big Leap

Allen, 21, entered the league last year as the No. 134 overall pick in the fourth round.

Coming out of college, he was labeled a big, bruising power back due to his imposing size and physicality.

“Allen has rare size on an imposing frame,” NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein wrote in his combine profile. “He’s built to be a banger.”

Last year, he was stuck in an inconsistent rotation in the Jets’ backfield. He finished with 92 carries for 334 rushing yards and two rushing scores. Allen averaged 3.6 yards per attempt.

The former Wisconsin product surprised with his soft hands in the receiving game. Allen added 19 receptions for 148 receiving yards and another touchdown through the air. He averaged an impressive 7.8 yards per catch.

With three years left on his $4.5 million rookie contract, he provides this new coaching staff with a potential plan B.

If Hall struggles or prices himself out of the Jets’ range, they could always make Allen the feature back in 2026 and let Hall hit the open market.

The Hype Train Should Be Over for Hall

The time for chit chat is finished. Hall has been a flashy fantasy football name to discuss, but more often than not, he hasn’t delivered on expectations.

Whether that is because of injury, usage, or ineffectiveness, Hall needs to prove he belongs in that top-tier RB conversation.

Hall has been Captain Flash, displaying superhero qualities. What he needs to do is display Clark Kent-level consistency. Just show up to work, punch in your time sheet, and deliver for your team.

If he does that each week, inevitably, those splash plays are going to hit. Until he accomplishes that, Hall is just a guy until proven otherwise.
