A one-car crash on a rural bypass road last week killed an 85-year-old woman, authorities said.
Investigators believe that Marlene Smario, of Pittsburg, drove off Kirker Pass Road and hit a tree near the Toyota Pavilion at Concord, according to Concord police. She died at the scene.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office identified her publicly.
The crash happened about 1:50 p.m. on June 20 near Clearbrook Drive, a particularly sharp turn that comes during a relatively sharp curve on Kirker Pass Road. The latter connects central and eastern Contra Costa County and bypasses Highway 4.
