A Colorado Department of Corrections officer was arrested earlier this month on domestic violence and weapons charges after firing a gun into the air during a fight with his wife, according to court documents.
Alexander Wolfgang Carpenter, 35, was arrested June 14 in Fremont County and charged with prohibited use of a weapon for recklessly using a gun, a misdemeanor, court records show.
Cañon City police officers responded to a home in the 200 block of South Seventh Street just after 10 p.m. on June 14, according to Carpenter’s arrest affidavit.
The fight happened in the 800 block of South Eighth Street, but his wife left after he fired the gun.
Carpenter’s wife told officers that he left the home with a gun while making statements about suicide, according to an arrest affidavit. She said she was following him, trying to talk to him and get his phone, when he fired the gun into the air.
“You shot a loaded gun into the air. This is more than just a fight,” she told Carpenter, according to the arrest affidavit.
Carpenter, a correctional officer, is on paid administrative leave during an internal investigation, agency spokesperson Alondra Gonzalez said in an email.
He was released from jail on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond on June 16 and is set to appear in court on July 28.
An attorney for Carpenter could not be reached for comment.
