Joao Pedro sends parting message to Brighton after completing Chelsea transfer

Joao Pedro has completed his £60million move to Chelsea from Brighton.

The Blues have swooped to add another option to their front line with the Brazil international signing a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Newcastle United were also eager to sign the 23-year-old with Pedro preferring a move to London.

Chelsea have agreed a deal worth £55m with £5m in add-ons with Brighton with Pedro departing after two seasons at the AMEX.

In a parting message to the Seagulls, Pedro wrote on Instagram: ‘I want to thank you all for the past two years we’ve been together.

‘For all the support and great memories that we created, it was a pleasure and a privilege to work with this team.’

Chelsea confirmed Pedro’s arrival on Wednesday afternoon.

‘Everyone knows this is a big club with a great history,’ he said. ‘They had brilliant players in the past and have brilliant players now.

‘So I am excited to join and you know when you are a Chelsea player you must think one thing — win.’

Pedro could be available to play in the Club World Cup with Chelsea booking their place in the quarter-final against Palmeiras.

Chelsea have also struck a deal to sign Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund for £55m but the winger will not be eligible to play for his new club in thar competition having already featured for the Bundesliga side.

Liam Delap arrived at the start of the transfer window from Ipswich Town along with Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg.

Dario Essugo has also arrived from Sporting CP after a deal was struck in March with Brazilian sensation Estevao Willian will join up with his new teammates after the Club World Cup.
