The Las Vegas Raiders may have never achieved ultimate glory with quarterback Derek Carr, they still have fond memories of the best quarterback they’ve had in many years.
As it turns out, Carr has a special place in his heart for his Raiders tenure too.
In a video released on the Home Grown Network YouTube Channel, run by Derek and his brother David Carr, Derek shared his personal top 5 list of favorite career moments.
Raiders fans were quick to point out that, despite the fact that Carr spent two years at the end of his career with the New Orleans Saints, all 5 moments that Carr chose were from when he was a member of the Raiders and none of them were from when he was with the Saints.
What Moments Did Carr Choose?
The first moment that Derek Carr named was the Raiders’ 24-21 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 9, 2018 at the Oakland Coliseum.
Carr threw a late go-ahead touchdown pass to TE Derek Carrier and Pittsburgh kicker Chris Boswell slipped on a potential game-tying field goal, giving the Raiders the narrow win.
The second moment Carr chose was a game-winning touchdown pass to WR Seth Roberts in overtime against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 30, 2016.
Next, Carr named a win over the rival Kansas City Chiefs. Again in the Oakland Coliseum, Carr tossed a 2-yard touchdown pass to Crabtree on the final play of the game to give the Raiders a 31-30 victory on October 19, 2017.
Then, Carr picked a play that actually came at the expense of the Saints. In Week 1 of the 2016 season on September 11, 2016, Carr tossed a touchdown to Roberts with less than a minute remaining in the game.
The Raiders boldly chose to go for a two point conversion and Carr found WR Michael Crabtree for the two points to put the Raiders up by 1.
Finally, Carr’s favorite moment came in the last game of the 2021 season on January 9, 2022. In a game that the Los Angeles Chargers and Raiders could have both made the playoffs with a tie, Carr and the Raiders instead elected to call a timeout with the game knotted at 32-32.
K Daniel Carlson subsequently made a field goal to send the Raiders to the playoffs AND knock the Chargers out.
Oakland Raiders fans were especially delighted to see that so many of his favorite NFL moments came with Oakland.
Will Carr Ever Return to the NFL?
When Derek Carr retired from the Saints this past offseason, injuries and finances seemed to be the main thing driving him to hang up the cleats.
Carr suffered a shoulder injury in 2024 that would have forced a surgery that kept him out of the entire 2025 season. That would have meant the Saints paying him $30 million to not play. Carr selflessly retired instead to save the Saints the cash.
Given that predicament forced his hand, fans wondered if Carr might come out of retirement after he recovered and sign a new, cheaper contract elsewhere.
For now, it seems Carr is enjoying more time hanging out with his four kids, Deakon Derek, Deker Luke, Dallas Mason and Brooklyn Mae.
But it seems like if any team could tug at Carr’s heartstrings and get him back on the field, it would be the Raiders.
Raiders fans, what’s your favorite memory of Derek Carr in the silver and black?
