Amal Clooney Admits That Her Privacy Measures Include Taking Guests’ Cell Phones

While George Clooney’s fans are aware that he and his wife, Amal Clooney, have 8-year-old twins, little is known about them. The reason is simple: neither Amal nor George put photos of Ella and Alexander on social media.

“I don’t want pictures of my kids,” Clooney told GQ in 2024. ‘We deal in very serious subject matters, with very serious bad guys, and we don’t want to have photos of our kids out there. So we have to work hard at trying to stay private, and it’s tricky, as you can imagine.”

Photographers may occasionally catch a glimpse of them. But, for the most part, their faces are often blurred. This is done both out of respect for the fact that they’re kids and because their parents don’t want their photos shared.

However, the Clooneys go further than most in their attempt to keep their family safe from prying eyes. Amal revealed in a July 3 interview that cell phones are a no-no in their home.

Amal Wants her Home to be a Safe Space

If you bring your cell phone into Amal Clooney’s home, don’t expect to get it back until you’re on your way out the door. “Creating private moments and spaces is becoming increasingly difficult,” Amal told Glamour. “But that’s also why we entertain a lot at home. I now have a phone basket that I use to take everyone’s phones away!”

While some may think that’s a bit extreme, Amal has a point. Cell phones are ubiquitous, and documenting one’s life for platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, or other social media sites has become the norm. Amal wants to guarantee that her home is a place where people feel safe to speak freely and be themselves.

“It’s important to get that balance where you have time alone with your family and with your friends where people feel like you can have a safe and frank exchange,” she continued. “And I would say becoming a parent means you’re more troubled by some of the intrusions. So we do the best we can to minimize any impact on our children.”

“We don’t put our children out there, we’ve never put their photo out there or anything like that,” she added.

The Clooneys Put Their Children First

The Clooneys have always been cautious when it comes to their children, so it’s not too surprising that they’d take precautions to protect their family. Ever since their twins were born in 2017, George admitted that they’d become more careful about the jobs they choose. Spending time as a family is the priority, not work.

“I’ve committed to a certain amount of work that I’m going to do, making sure that I’m going to do that because it’s a commitment and it’s the right thing to do. And she’s in the exact same place,” he told People in 2021. “It’s going to take about a year, we figure. And then, it doesn’t mean she’s going to stop taking the cases that she wants, it just means she’s not going to take six. And I’m not going to do four jobs a year, I’m going to do one.”
