Jets RB Braelon Allen Delivers a Scary Message Ahead of Camp

New York Jets running back Braelon Allen is approaching 2025 with a new mentality.

“I think I just wanna really hone in on my superpower, which is being a downhill physical runner. By the time those first couple of series are over, I want to make sure people don’t want to tackle me anymore,” Allen told Jets team reporter Caroline Hendershot.

The Jets Are Finally Going to Find Their Identity

Gang Green has battled an identity crisis for much of the last 14 seasons. It is no coincidence that the Jets are simultaneously experiencing the longest playoff drought in team history during that same period.

If you don’t know who you are, how can you possibly find consistency on a week-to-week basis? It appears this Jets team, under the watchful eye of first-year head coach Aaron Glenn, knows who they are, and that is half the battle. Executing that plan is a different matter entirely.

“We are definitely going to be violent, we are all big physical guys [in the running back room]. We know that is our power, that is our strength, and obviously everybody has their own kind of secret sauce, and when you combine that physicality with those special talents that we all have, it can be very dangerous. Excited to put it on display,” Allen told Hendershot.

The Jets have six running backs on the roster. All of them are at least 202 pounds, with Allen being the largest of the group at 235 pounds, according to the team website.

A Running Back by Committee Approach Is Coming to the Jets in 2025

Allen, 21, was clearly the second fiddle in the running game this past season. Breece Hall had 117 more rushing attempts than Allen in 2024.

There is a chance that the trend continues in 2025, but it won’t start that way. Glenn has made it clear that he and offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand will utilize all three running backs on the roster.

“I think, mentally, [Hall] is in a good place, but I would say that we have three running backs on this team that we’re going to utilize as much as possible,” Glenn told the media at the Annual League Meetings via ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “They’re all big men, they can run, they’re violent, they’re physical. So I think once we get a chance to get the players in and see exactly how they operate, I think every player is going to be happy with the way that we go about this offense, and I think he’s going to be one of them.”

That group includes Allen, Hall, and second-year player Isaiah Davis. Hall is in a contract year while Davis and Allen still have three more years left on their rookie deals.
