Long-awaited upgrades to the Mare Island Causeway Bridge are set to begin this summer, bringing improved infrastructure and enhanced safety to commuters, city officials announced Thursday.
Preliminary off-site preparations will begin July 17 and are not expected to impact traffic. However, starting Aug. 4, traffic will be reduced to one lane as on-site construction gets underway, officials said.
Drivers are encouraged to plan and allow extra travel time.
The project is slated to last approximately 18 months, with completion expected by Jan. 5, 2027.
City officials thanked the public for their patience, emphasizing that the repairs will strengthen the vital connection between Vallejo and Mare Island for years.
