Is the British Grand Prix on Channel 4? How to watch F1 race, starting grid and weather forecast

Lando Norris can take the lead of the Formula 1 championship in front of his home fans at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone today.

The McLaren driver trails his teammate Oscar Piastri by 15 points but both missed out on pole to reigning champion Max Verstappen.

Very little has separated the pace of McLaren, Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari this weekend, with fellow home favourites George Russell and Sir Lewis Hamilton in contention for the victory.

What time does the British Grand Prix start?

Lights out for the British Grand Prix is at 3pm today.

Norris’ best hopes of taking back the championship lead will be to win and hope Piastri crosses the line sixth or worse.

Is the British Grand Prix live on Channel 4?

While they usually only show the highlights, Channel 4 will be broadcasting the British Grand Prix live. You can also stream the action live on All4.

As ever, Sky Sports F1 and Sky Sports Main Event will also be showing the race live. Both broadcasters’ coverage of today’s race will begin at 1.30pm.

What happened in British Grand Prix qualifying?

Qualifying was a thrilling and tight affair with Verstappen snatching pole with a blistering time of 1:24.892.

He pipped Piastri by just 0.103 seconds, with Norris just 0.015s off his teammate and Russell a further 0.019s back in fourth.

Hamilton will line-up fifth, while the fourth Brit on the grid Ollie Bearman did brilliantly to reach the top 10 in his Haas.

However, the rookie driver will start 18th after getting penalised for a pit-lane shunt in final practice, while Kimi Antonelli also drops three places because of his crash with Verstappen at last weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix.

British Grand Prix weather forecast

Silverstone is notorious for changeable weather conditions, with rain forecast for all of Sunday morning.

The rain should ease off just before the race begins, down to a 20 per cent chance of precipitation at lights out, with dark clouds set to loom over the track.

With highs of just 20C, drivers will struggle to warm up their tyres which could create havoc.

Who won the 2024 British Grand Prix?

To the joy and amazement of the home crowd it was Hamilton who claimed victory at Silverstone last year – a record-extending ninth British Grand Prix win.

Having not won a race for nearly three years, the then-Mercedes man overtook polesitter Norris, mastered changeable conditions, got his tyre strategy right and held off a late challenge from Verstappen.

The Red Bull star finished second with McLaren’s Norris completing the podium, while polesitter Russell retired with mechanical issues.
