Bengals’ Joe Burrow Reveals Major Reason Behind Agreeing To Netflix Series

Joe Burrow keeps everything close. His circle is tight, and he values his privacy like any NFL player. But the star Cincinnati Bengals quarterback understands that fame is simply part of the gig.

Ahead of Netflix’s Season 2 release of ‘Quarterback’ on Tuesday, many fans have wondered what brought Burrow to the popular series. While it’s not totally out of character for the 28-year-old to embrace the limelight, it was surprising to see him commit.

The rare camera access to Burrow that the show entails was one of the first things that came to mind. He’ll be featured with Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff and Atlanta Falcons’ Kirk Cousins this season. The trio of signal callers will share the screen time, akin to Patrick Mahomes and Marcus Mariota two years ago.

But reflecting again on Burrow’s involvement, there’s no question that his appearance will raise eyebrows, given his turbulent experiences in the last year. More so, off the field.

His home was burglarized in December 2024 while the Bengals were playing the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas. Details were leaked. Information spread. And Burrow, understandably, didn’t hide his frustration.

“I feel like my privacy has been violated in more ways than one,” Burrow said after the incident, per The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr. “Way more is out there than I would want out there and that I care to share. So that’s all I’ve got to say about that.”

So, when Netflix reached out, it was uncertain whether or not Burrow would greenlight it.

Turns out, he was fully ready for the moment because of who was executive producing.

“I think a big part was Peyton (Manning) being involved in it, too,” Burrow said. “I have a lot of respect for him, obviously. What he did, does, is as a person, when that guy reaches out to you and asks you to do something, then … most of the time I’m not going to say no.”

Burrow wasn’t interested in being followed 24/7 or having parts of his life taken out of context. he wanted some transparency, and that’s what Manning was willing to offer.

“Only positive things could come out of it,” Burrow said. “He’s going to protect me, protect our team, protect our organization. I have trust in him for saying that and trust that he’s going to do that. I probably wouldn’t have done it if he wasn’t involved, but I have a lot of trust and faith in him to not do anything that would hurt me or the team.”

Burrow has the ability to review the episodes and give input. That sealed it. The cameras rolled. The access opened up to one of the most fascinating quarterbacks the game has ever had.
