The Washington Commanders and wide receiver ‘Scary’ Terry McLaurin are at an impasse due to a contract dispute. According to Over the Cap, ‘Scary’ Terry is set to make $15.5 million base salary with the team and is looking to sign a new contract that puts him up there with the top-paid receivers in the league.
McLaurin, who turns 30 near the start of the new season, was absent at minicamp earlier this offseason due to contract negotiations.
The wide receiver is reportedly “not happy” with the way contract talks are going with the Commanders. ESPN insider Adam Schefter appeared on the Pat McAfee show and gave an “update” on the negotiations.
“There’s no update on the Terry McLaurin situation and that’s the problem… There is quite a gap between what both sides want right now and they have not made any progress,” Schefter said on the show.
The former Ohio State Buckeye has recorded five consecutive 1,000+ receiving yards for Washington. ‘Scary’ Terry logged 13 receiving touchdowns last season, a season career high.

The New England Patriots bolstered their wide receiver room this offseason under first-year head coach Mike Vrabel. Bringing in Stefon Diggs on a three-year deal and drafting Washington State receiver Kyle Williams.
Yet, the Patriots can use another piece to fill the void in their WR group. With the possibility of Diggs not being on the roster come week one due to recovering from a torn ACL.
Sports Illustrated’s Mike Kadlick names the Patriots as one of five best landing spots for the receiver if a trade were to happen.
“Almost always listed as an option whenever a veteran pass catcher may be available, the New England Patriots could use a true No. 1 option for second-year quarterback Drake Maye,” Kadlick wrote for SI. “While they did sign Stefon Diggs to a three-year contract earlier this offseason, the two-time All-Pro is still recovering from ACL surgery as he enters his age-31 season.”
“Additionally, rookie third-round pick Kyle Williams could use a healthy veteran to learn from in the room, and second-year targets Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker left much to be desired as rookies.”
If the Patriots were to trade for the Washington Commanders receiver, the team has the cap space available to give McLaurin the contract he is looking for. According to OTC, New England currently has around $60 million in cap space.
Packed Patriots Receiving Room

As mentioned earlier, the New England Patriots brought in Stefon Diggs and drafted Kyle Williams; the inclusion of Terry McLaurin would give the team a packed receiver room.
To make room for McLaurin, the team would have to let some pieces go. Here’s what Kadlick wrote:
“Outside of DeMario Douglas, everyone else in the room could be considered expendable. McLaurin, meanwhile, would give the ever-so-promising Maye an immediate security blanket on offense.”
While a trade package is to be determined to land the two-time Pro-Bowler, it seems like the Patriots would need to give up a decent amount to land ‘Scary Terry.’
