Cowboys QB Dak Prescott Speaks Out on George Pickens

Dak Prescott sees a spark in George Pickens that the Dallas Cowboys are hoping can ignite their offense as he works alongside CeeDee Lamb.

Pickens was acquired in an offseason trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 24-year-old came with some baggage and a reputation from his time in Pittsburgh. However, Prescott spoke highly of Pickens during an interview at his annual youth football camp.

“That’s a guy that loves football,” Prescott said. “He’s a great dude, loves his teammates. He’s excited as hell for this season, I know he is. I know he’s happy to be in a fresh, new spot. I’m excited for what he’s going to do for this (offense).”

Pickens, a second-round pick in 2022, comes with some big upside. He amassed 174 receptions for 2,841 yards and 12 touchdowns across 48 games with the Steelers. His standout season came in 2023, recording 63 catches for 1,140 yards and five touchdowns.

Prescott doesn’t see it taking long for the two to build chemistry on the field.

“Not long,” Prescott said. “You turn on that guy’s tape, he’s getting separation. He’s got separation even when he’s not getting the ball at times. And when he doesn’t have separation, he’s still making catches. It’s not going to be hard. For me, it’s about getting the ball near that guy and letting him go be George Pickens. Go turn on the tape, he’s great at doing that.”

Cowboys WRs George Pickens, CeeDee Lamb Forming Bond

The Cowboys were in search of an explosive second option to pair with Lamb, a four-time Pro Bowler. They found a great piece in Pickens and the duo have started to form a strong bond this offseason.

“That might be the best part about it,” Prescott said. “That’s two guys that want the other guy to succeed just as much. That is literally the best part about those two, seeing it first hand, just those two hanging out. I’d go in the house on purpose for a little bit, just peeking at them. They love each other. They love each other’s company. They love each other’s game. Just watching them on the field, talking to each other, they’re going to push each other. Being the guy that gets to get them the ball, it’s exciting as hell.”

Lamb played through injury last season and without Prescott for an extended period of time. he still put up big numbers, notching 101 catches for 1,194 yards and six touchdowns. He had a career year in 2023, snagging 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns.

With Pickens on the other side, Lamb should have even more room to work.

Pickens will be motivated to produce this season. The former second-round pick is in the final year of his deal and can cash in if he produces at an elite level.

“I’m kind of where my feet are right now, to be honest,” Pickens said following the trade. “I’m not really thinking about contract talks. I’m just glad to be here at Cowboys right now, you know, trying to build a winning culture.”

The Cowboys are looking to rebound from a 7-10 campaign. Dallas kicks off training camp on July 22, with their first preseason game scheduled for Aug. 9 against the Los Angeles Rams.
