What Juan Soto’s All Star Snub Is Sparking Among Experts, Fans

It’s the time of year when the best of the best are called to be part of the 2025 MLB All-Star Game. These are players who have been among the most consistent and efficient players in the league. With easy choices, first-time selections, and surprising picks also come noticeable snubs. There are surprising stars missing from the All-Star selection, but not among New York Mets right fielder Juan Soto.

Corbin Carroll, Kyle Stowers, Fernando Tatis Jr., James Wood, Ronald Acuña Jr., Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Kyle Tucker were among the outfielders selected for the NL All-Star team.

Juan Soto Snubbed Despite Great Numbers

Soto will be the first to admit that rough stretches have occurred this season. Overall, he is still recording some historic numbers in his first year with the New York Mets. In 90 games and 397 plate appearances, Soto has accumulated 65 runs, 21 home runs, 84 hits, 51 RBIs, 10 stolen bases, a league-high 72 walks, 68 strikeouts, a batting average of .263, an on-base percentage of .396, and a slugging percentage of .508.

Regarding how reliable he is at the plate this season, Soto only has 11 games where he struck out more than once. He has 17 games in which he has accounted for a home run. He is the seventh player in league history to reach 20 home runs, 70 walks, 15 double-base hits, and 10 stolen bases. While the other six players made the All-Star selection, Soto would be the first not to receive special recognition from this list of accomplishments.

Expert Reactions of Historic Juan Soto Snub

Many experts and fans talked about Soto’s snubs being a by-product of a first-time selection-heavy All-Star game and Soto’s slow start to the season. There were also those who thought Soto’s snub was historic and disappointing at the same time.

Former three-time All-Star and Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins talked to Bleacher Report about some of the most noticeable snubs.

“This is a discussion that happens every year, who is snubbed, and not to take anything away from the guys that have been selected. It’s just sometimes, it’s a name you feel should be there. Juan Soto, for example. He got off to a slow start, a big contract and because of that, it seems like he is having a down season and for Juan Soto, yes. He is a star, he is an All-Star.”

SNY Mets analyst Danny Abriano took it further to call Soto’s snub an embarrassing look for the league.

“I think it was a massive snub and I’ll go as far to say it was embarrassing really, I jotted down some numbers. .904 OPS….72 walks, which leads the majors. Leads the National League in OBP, 21 homers and 65 runs scored…Look I understand the selection process, you need to have every team represented … but Fernando Tatis Jr., who made the team over Soto, his OPS is four points lower than Soto’s. So, I don’t get it. I understand there is a lot of debate about who the best hitter in baseball is. Is it Judge, Is it Ohtani, Is it Soto? I think Soto is the best pure hitter in baseball. He’s having a fantastic season and I think it’s a total joke.”
