‘The Mummy’ Cast Throws Epic 25-Year Reunion—Will a New Adventure Follow?

Hollywood blockbusters don’t often get 25-year celebrations, but “The  Mummy,” released in 1999, just pulled off a reunion that felt like pure cinematic magic. The beloved cast, Brendan Fraser, John Hannah, Patricia Velásquez, and Oded Fehr, reassembled at Fan Expo Denver.

Safe to say this sent all nostalgia into overdrive and fans into a frenzy. All fans needed was a special appearance from Rachel Weisz.

Directed by Stephen Sommers, “The Mummy” was a globe-trotting mix of adventure, romance, and horror. So much so that it pulled in a whopping $418 million worldwide on an $80 million budget. So yes, as expected, it was the sixth-highest-grossing film of 1999! It introduced us to treasure hunter Rick O’Connell (Fraser) and brilliant librarian Evelyn Carnahan (Weisz), forming the dynamic duo at the heart of the franchise.

Their success spawned two sequels, including a spinoff in “The Scorpion King,” and countless fan theories. Despite a 2017 reboot with Tom Cruise failing to spark interest, the original cast stayed close, and their Fan Expo panel was proof that their chemistry is still gold.

At the event, the four actors lit up the stage, sharing laughs and memories across deserts and tombs, both real and metaphorical.

Vasquez went on to post several pictures of the special moment, captioning her Instagram post, “So wonderful and so special to reconnect after so many years with the cast of The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. #BrendanFraser, @iamjohnhannah , and @fehr.oded.”

She continued, “Thank you to @fanexpodenver for making this possible. It means so much to be able to share these moments together again and to celebrate with the fans who have kept this story alive in their hearts. What a beautiful reminder that some adventures never really end.”

Hollywood’s Power Duo Then & Now

Fraser’s performance as a charismatic, fearless hero was his breakout role. It set him on a path that led to his stunning comeback in “The Whale.” Released in 2022, the film saw him make a major comeback, which earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor. He later went on to work with Martin Scorsese in “Killers of the Flower Moon.”

Meanwhile, Weisz, who played Evelyn, became a commercial and critical A-list powerhouse. She went on to win an Oscar in 2005 for “The Constant Gardener” and continued to be a sought-after leading lady. She’s received several accolades throughout the years, including a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Laurence Olivier Award. Most recently, she also joined the MCU in 2021 for the film “Black Widow,” alongside Scarlett Johansson portraying Melina Vostokoff. She later went on to star on Amazon’s thriller miniseries “Dead Ringers” in 2023 as twins.

Despite Weisz not attending the reunion, fans were still excited to see part of the cast together. The cast’s reunion wasn’t just a nostalgic trip; it ignited fresh speculation about a potential new installment or streaming series. With Fraser admitting he’d love to make another movie, fans are now asking, could Universal reboot the franchise one more time?

Universal already has a new “Mummy” film in the works, though. It is expected to be directed by Lee Cronin and is aimed for April 2026 under New Line/Blumhouse. But the original cast’s reunion adds a hopeful twist. Perhaps a two-pronged approach lies ahead, which is a horror reboot and a classic revival starring the original crew.

The Reunion That Proved Some Adventures Never End

Reunions don’t get more heartfelt than this. Seeing Fraser, Hannah, Velásquez, and Fehr back together reminded fans why “The Mummy” became such a cultural touchstone. As one fan wrote on Instagram, “A beautiful reunion 😍😍😍 I love this so much.” “Watching this made me super emotional. Love this and y’all!,” another said.

So, whether you’re Team Reboot or Team Cronin, one thing’s clear, twenty-five years later, “The Mummy” is still digging up gold. This and fans aren’t ready to close the tomb just yet.

Will this reunion unearth another cinematic adventure? If “The Mummy” taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected.
