Netflix subscribers have a brand new obsession after all 10 episodes of a ‘perfect’ show dropped on the streaming platform this Thursday.

Too Much, created by Lena Dunham and Luis Felber, follows New York native Jessica (Megan Stalter) who moves to London after a break-up.

Upon arrival, she begins to move on from the disastrous split from her ex-partner and soon forms a close connection with musician Felix (Will Sharpe).

The 10-part comedy drama, which marks 39-year-old Lena’s return to TV after seven years away, is currently sitting pretty on Rotten Tomatoes with an 84% critic rating (based on 33 reviews).

Also among the cast list are huge names such as Rita Wilson, Rhea Perlman, Emily Ratajkowski, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Watts, and Jessica Alba (who plays herself).

On X, @Felixes_ praised the series: ‘Too Much is the perfect show. Matilda’s mon, Fiona Apple music, so many Girls actors and the vision that Will Sharpe is, plus Megan’s the funniest woman alive.’

@TeeWatterss also had nothing but good things to say: ‘Six episodes in and my god I’ve missed Lena Dunham’s ability to write dialogue, Megan Stalter is a star with perfect comedic timing.’

Elsewhere, @MoviesWithHabe commented: ‘I really enjoyed Too Much, on Netflix. Megan Stalter is so good (and doing something like her hilarious work on Hacks) and she’s very smartly paired with Will Sharpe.’

@Mara_Webster also celebrated Megan’s performance: ‘Just finished all of Too Much – brilliantly layered between comedy and heartfelt. Megan Stalter is fantastic and it’s thrilling to see her at the helm of a lead role.’

Too Much is the first Lena Dunham TV co-creation to be released since 2018, when she teamed up with Jenni Konner for the comedy series Camping.

A year earlier, in 2017, her acclaimed comedy drama Girls came to an end after six seasons – the series had premiered in 2012, when Lena was just 26 years old.

Metro.co.uk’s view on Too Much

Metro’s Lena Dunham expert Adam Miller shares their thoughts on Too Much...

With the possible exception of Fleabag, few shows have truly deserved to be mentioned in the same breath as Girls. But her new 10-episode comedy, Too Much, is an instant classic. It’s no exaggeration to say that, as soon as it ended, I knew it would be one of my favourite television shows of all time.

I’m writing this six weeks before Too Much launches on Netflix.

That’s six weeks of not being able to share the bubbling excitement that there will be moments from Too Much that pop into my head at random for the rest of my life – and I’ll find myself laughing uncontrollably on the tube, in my local Co-op, or while walking down the street.

When television is truly great – when its characters feel like real people – there’s a kind of magic that leaks into real life. I’m not a fantasist; I understand fiction. But Chandler Bing, Samantha Jones, Frasier Crane, and Buffy Summers are all heroes of mine who’ve made my life infinitely better just by being in it.

Too Much is one of those rare gems, with characters destined to stay with you for life and have the same impact.

The series followed four 20-something women living in Brooklyn, New York as they navigated complicated friendships and romantic relationships while trying to start their careers in the Big Apple.

Too Much also stars Broadway singer and actor Andrew Rannells, who played Elijah in Girls across all six of its seasons.

Girls introduced the world to big screen stars like Adam Driver and had many critics calling Lena ‘the voice of her generation’, mimicking a famous line from the show.

Despite receiving widespread acclaim for also playing lead character Hannah Horvath in Girls, Lena has decided to step away from the cameras this time – instead she’s leaving it all up to Megan.

‘Megan is her own incredible person. She is so self-possessed. I learned so much from her, and I wish I’d had her in my ear when I was on a show. She [is] just is so elegant and wise and funny, so she’s got it all covered.’
