While Scarlett Johansson continues to dominate the box office and recently claimed the title of highest-grossing actor of all time after “Jurassic World Rebirth“, one part of her life has remained under the radar: she has a twin brother.

Scarlett and Hunter Johansson were born on November 22, 1984, in Manhattan.

Though Hunter once acted alongside her in 1996’s “Manny & Lo”, he ultimately chose a path far away from the spotlight — one grounded in service and social good.

Why Scarlett’s Brother Chose Nonprofit Work Over Stardom

Rather than pursue acting, Hunter founded Solar Responders in 2017, a nonprofit born out of the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. After witnessing the toll of widespread power outages on emergency services, he launched the organization to install solar panels at fire stations, ensuring first responders would never again be left in the dark during a disaster.

His mission has since brought meaningful impact to frontline communities, and even drew Scarlett and her husband, Colin Jost, to join in installation efforts in Puerto Rico in 2019.

According to his LinkedIn profile, after attending the University of Vermont and New York University, Hunter began a career in politics. He worked for Scott Stringer after Stringer became Manhattan Borough President in 2005, and later joined Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign. He also co-hosted a benefit with Scarlett in 2014 to aid Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts in New York City.

Despite Her Fame, Scarlett Stays Close to Her Twin

Scarlett and Hunter have always shared a close bond, even as their lives diverged dramatically.

In a 2015 Parade interview, Scarlett said: “He’s the most golden-hearted person… My twin brother has always been that for me.” “You want someone to tell you what he witnesses in your life. My twin brother has always been that for me.”

In another interview in 2024, the actress told hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, “We’re super close. My brother Hunter is… he’s a gem,” she added. “He’s also single.”

Though he’s supported her at red carpets and public events, their joint appearances have grown rarer since Scarlett married SNL star Colin Jost, now 43.

Unlike his global superstar sister, Hunter keeps an ultra-low profile. He has an Instagram account, but goes months — even years — without posting, which has only added to his mystique. So rare are mentions of him that fans took notice when Scarlett casually referenced him in an interview earlier this year.

While Scarlett continues to lead blockbusters and walk red carpets, her brother Hunter has carved out a quieter, purpose-driven life. From politics to solar energy, his journey reflects a deeply rooted commitment to service — and to staying true to himself.

Still, the bond between the Johansson twins runs deeper than fame. As Scarlett once said, “He is my other half.”
