Three people were taken to the hospital after a small fire at the state-run Denver Women’s Correctional Facility on Saturday morning, according to the Denver Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to the Colorado Department of Corrections facility near 37th Avenue and Havana Street at 10:30 a.m.
The fire was quickly extinguished but ventilating smoke from the area took “some time,” agency officials said. Three inmates were taken to the hospital for observation, and additional information about their conditions was not immediately available.
Denver Fire officials could not say where in the facility the fire broke out, and the cause of the fire is unknown.
A spokesperson for the Department of Corrections could not immediately be reached for comment.
