Sydney Sweeney may be the next bond girl

The new Bond movie may have found its leading lady! Sydney Sweeney is reportedly in line to become the next Bond girl in the highly anticipated reboot of the James Bond franchise. The “Euphoria” and “White Lotus actress, 27, is said to be the top choice of newly appointed director Denis Villeneuve. According to a report published in the UK Sun, a source close to the production revealed, “Sydney is the top name on the casting sheet for Bond.

Denis believes she is hugely talented, as well as having an alluring appeal to younger generations — vital in modernising the franchise.”

Sweeney recently underwent a full-body transformation for her role as boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic. She reportedly lifted weights daily and trained in kickboxing to prepare — a physicality the studio finds essential in the next generation of Bond women.

“Sydney has the quality of being athletic and able to perform physical scenes, as well as being feminine and following in the legacy of Bond girls,” the insider told the US Sun.

After months of speculation, it was officially announced via Amazon on June 25th that Denis Villeneuve, 57, will direct the next James Bond film.

Known for his visually epic work on “Dune”, “Blade Runner 2049”, and “Sicario”, Villeneuve brings fresh energy and cinematic vision to the long-running spy franchise.

He’ll also serve as executive producer alongside Tanya Lapointe. Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman will guide the film under the banner of Amazon MGM Studios, marking a shift from longtime 007 stewards Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

The news comes three years after Amazon completed its $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM, which gave the tech giant ownership of the Bond library and rights to future projects.

While Sweeney may be the next Bond girl, speculation continues over who will replace Daniel Craig, who bowed out in No Time to Die (2021). As per Daily Mail, Bookmakers at Coral have listed actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 35, as the current frontrunner with 9/4 odds.

Other names still in the running for the coveted role include Theo James, 40, with 4-1 odds; Jack Lowden, 35, at 5-1; and Henry Cavill, 42, with longer odds at 10-1.

Meanwhile, it appears unlikely that Tom Holland will join the 007 franchise anytime soon, as he’s currently committed to several upcoming projects and is unavailable for the Bond production schedule.

With no Bond film since 2021’s “No Time to Die” — Daniel Craig’s final outing as the iconic spy — the next chapter is long overdue, and all eyes are on who will help redefine 007 for a new era.
