First Look: Milly Alcock’s Supergirl Is Unlike Anything We’ve Seen in the DCU

The DC Universe is going through a serious transformation, and at the center of it is Milly Alcock. Yes, we officially got our first look at Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. After her wild cameo in the latest “Superman” film, fans are already buzzing about this unfiltered, emotionally scarred version of the Girl of Steel. And based on what we’ve seen so far, Alcock’s Supergirl goes far beyond expectations.

The new film is part of the DCU’s relaunch, which fans have been eagerly waiting to see. It’s aiming for something bolder, darker, and a lot more human than the dark-haired heroine we’re used to. This Supergirl isn’t just here to save the day. Nope, she’s here to burn down everything you thought you knew about Kryptonians. Talk about a wild new transformation.

Milly Alcock’s Meteoric Rise

Before stepping into the red leather boots of “Supergirl,” Milly Alcock was already on the radar of many Hollywood insiders. Known for her standout role in “House of the Dragon,” Alcock showcased her impressive range as a young Rhaenyra Targaryen. In the franchise, she quickly won over fans with her compelling performance, and for a good reason. Have you seen her acting skills!?

The series is the second TV show to come out of George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” franchise, based on Martin’s successful 2018 novel “Fire & Blood.” Premiering in 2022, the first season was such a success that it immediately got renewed for a second season just five days after it had premiered. It also went ahead to be renewed for its third season in June 2024, ahead of the season two premiere. 

Alcock’s raw intensity and screen presence proved she could go toe-to-toe with fantasy legends. Now, she’s trading dragons for deep space, and she’s bringing that same edge with her. She also went on to recently star in Netflix’s Sirens alongside Kevin Bacon and Julianne Moore. Let’s not forget about “White Lotus” powerhouse Meghann Fahy. So yes, there’s no doubt in our mind that Alcock is capable of carrying another franchise on her back.

This Supergirl Is a Total Wreck, & That’s the Point

In a blink-and-you ’ll-miss-it scene from “Superman,” Alcock’s Kara drunkenly stumbles into the Fortress of Solitude looking for her dog, Krypto. Already off the back, we know something new is about to happen, and chaos is about to ensue. In the process, she calls Superman a “b***h” and walks up and down like she owns the place. According to DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, that’s not a one-off. That’s the Supergirl we’ll be getting in her 2026 solo film.

“Yeah, that’s her,” Gunn confirmed. “She’s a mess. She’s a total mess.”

This version of Kara Zor-El didn’t grow up under the loving watch of Jonathan and Martha Kent. Instead, she spent her early years stranded on a fragment of Krypton, watching everyone around her die. It left her hardened, traumatized, and understandably angry.

As Gunn explained, “Kara was on Krypton. She was on a piece of Krypton that drifted away from the planet and she lived there for the first 14 years of her life in a horrible situation where she watched everyone around her die. So, she’s a much harsher and more f*picked up Supergirl than you’ve been used to thus far.”

What to Expect from ‘Supergirl’

Inspired by Tom King’s comic run “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” the upcoming film promises a space-fantasy adventure with a much darker tone than Superman. The story will dig into Kara’s emotional scars and moral ambiguity as she battles her way through cosmic landscapes and her own past.

Also rumored to appear? Jason Momoa’s Lobo. Yes, that Lobo! Picture this, a super jaded, trauma-hardened Supergirl and a chaos-loving bounty hunter sharing the screen. The DCU might just explode. What’s better than that? Well, probably nothing. 

The “Supergirl” solo film is currently slated for release in 2026, and if everything holds, it’ll be one of the defining chapters of the reimagined DC Universe. Between Alcock’s star power and a storyline that isn’t afraid to get messy, the Girl of Steel is about to get real, and we’re absolutely here for it.
