Dwyane Wade Gives Honest Thoughts On Bronny James

As Bronny James continues to develop for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2025 NBA Summer League, Dwyane Wade gave his honest opinion on the son of his former teammate LeBron James.

In the latest episode of his ‘Time Out’ podcast, the Hall of Famer Wade spoke highly of James, crediting both his on-court game and his development as a whole.

“Bronny is cold, bro,Wade said.Bronny is just 6’1 or 6’2. I watched the moves. I watched his movement. This is not saying he’s going to be a 30-point scorer in the league, but bro the kid can hoop.”

Through three NBA Summer League games so far, James is averaging 13 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 23.1 minutes per game on 44.8% shooting. For the Lakers last year, he averaged 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds, 0.8 assists on 31.3% shooting in 27 regular-season appearances.

Wade Gave Words of Encouragement to Bronny

The three-time champion and 2006 Finals MVP gave high praise to James after his latest Summer League games.

“His bag is heavy. His bag is tough; he got it all,Wade reiterated. It’s really cool to see his confidence now. You started seeing it as he went to the G-League when he started dunking on [expletive] and having those games. But you saw it in that first play of Summer League. That shows you everything.”

Besides his play on the court, Wade also gave his thoughts on James’ development as a whole. He credited both LeBron and agent Rich Paul for not rushing his process and allowing him to grow before being put in high-pressure situations.

“As he makes his jump, I think what Klutch has done, what Rich [Paul] has done, what his father has done, is that they haven’t rushed his process,Wade said.People already want to rush Bronny’s process and say,Is he going to be a rotation player for the Lakers right now?Bronny doesn’t need to be a rotation player for the Lakers right now. He needs to continue to keep developing.”

Wade On The NBA Learning Curve

In what was the topic that led to Wade discussing Bronny and his development, he spoke on the learning curve that young players have to go through in order to find success in the league.

“Gotta learn the game. You gotta learn the physicality, you gotta learn the plays. You gotta learn to play with grown men,Wade said. It’s a lot you got to learn your first year.”

In the same vein as how players go through a learning curve when they enter the league, Wade brought it back to James. He explained how as time goes on, he will understand more aspects of the game, which will lead to him becoming a better and more impactful all-around player.

“His play is going to show you when that step is going to come. But it may not be this year neither. He needs to develop, but he’s developing so fast, in front of our eyes. It’s not a slow developmentWade said. But stop putting pressure on him that he needs to be a rotational player. He needs to take the next step in his development and whatever that provides, is what the young man needs to keep doing.”

James had his best performance of this year’s summer league in the Lakers’ latest game against the Los Angeles Clippers. Though it came in a loss, he finished with 17 points, five rebounds, and five assists on 60% shooting from the field and three.
