Mavericks’ Anthony Davis’ Agent Opens Up On Offseason Surgery

In a recent appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio, CEO and founder of Klutch Sports, Rich Paul, gave insight on Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis after his most recent offseason surgery.

Speaking with Frank Isola, Paul said that Davis was ‘fine‘ and ready for the start of training camp after the big man underwent surgery to repair a detached retina suffered during the regular season.

He’s fine, he’s fine,Paul said.Obviously, it’s the offseason. He’s a warrior trying to fight through things.”

After the Los Angeles Lakers sent Davis to the Mavericks in the blockbuster deal for Luka Doncic, the 32-year-old played in 11 total games in Dallas this past season. However, he sustained an abductor strain halfway through his first game with the team in February, which sidelined him for nearly two months.

Davis’ latest offseason surgery marked his second major injury over the past six months, adding to the numerous health concerns the 10-time All-Star has suffered throughout his career.

Rich Paul Spoke On Davis and Others

Isola also asked Paul if Davis would need to wear goggles during Mavericks games after the surgery, and if it would impact his play and comfort level on the court.

“I don’t know, maybe, if he decides to do that,Paul said on if Davis would wear goggles as a precautionary measure next season. To protect it, I imagine that could be an option. But it also depends on how comfortable [Davis] would have to be to play. But obviously I have to talk to him.”

Paul talked about other topics around the league regarding players he represents. Namely, he spoke on LeBron James and the rumors surrounding the all-time leading scorer and his future with the Lakers. Paul also discussed Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green and his recent criticism of the league’s collective bargaining agreement and subsequent impacts on free agency.

“Free agency for us as a league is a very important asset,Paul added on his appearance with Isola. Not just contracts, but for our fan base as well. Free agency is that moment of connectivity and cool that we should really build around.”

Mavericks’ Eventful Offseason Gets Worse

Along with Davis’ offseason surgery, recent news broke that one of Dallas’ other top big men, Dereck Lively II, underwent a procedure toclean upbone spurs in his foot, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania

Lively’s surgery comes after he played in just 36 regular-season games for Dallas this past season. He appeared in just 55 games in his rookie year, meaning the 21-year-old has played in only 55% of the Mavericks’ regular-season matchups since joining the team.

Both Charania and NBA insider Marc Stein clarified that Lively expects to be ready by the start of training camp. However, the big man now sits alongside Davis and star point guard Kyrie Irving as another big-name Dallas player to undergo a major procedure in the past few months.

“This means three key Mavericks are in injury recovery: Kyrie Irving (knee), Anthony Davis (eye) and Lively,Stein wrote in a post on X

Dallas has had one of the most eventful offseasons of any team in the NBA. Alongside the injuries and surgeries, the team highlighted their summer by selecting Cooper Flagg with the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

The Mavericks also signed Daniel Gafford to a three-year $60 million extension and gave Irving a three-year $119 million deal, despite the star likely being out for a majority of next season.
