These Two ‘Guys’ Are Reuniting — And the Internet Is Losing It

Ryan Gosling Will Ferrell

Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell are officially teaming up again — this time for “Tough Guys”, a new action-comedy in development at Amazon MGM Studios, according to Deadline. The film follows two henchmen who, tired of being expendable, decide to leave their lives of crime behind and start over on their own terms.

The script was first written independently by “Workin’ Moms” producer Daniel Gold before being picked up by Amazon MGM Studios. Gosling is set to produce the project through Open Invite Entertainment with Jessie Henderson, while Ferrell is in talks to produce alongside Jessica Elbaum under Gloria Sanchez Productions. Trevor Engelson and Aaron Folbe are also in talks to executive produce for Underground. A director has not yet been announced.

Tough Guys marks the latest entry in a series of high-profile projects for both stars. Gosling is currently gearing up for Project Hail Mary and Star Wars: Starfighter, while Ferrell is coming off Amazon MGM’s “You’re Cordially Invited” and is attached to upcoming titles “Judgment Day”, “Street Justice”, and Netflix’s “Golf”.

From ‘Knife Guys’ to ‘Tough Guys’: Their Comedic History Runs Deep

While “Tough Guys” is a new pairing for the big screen, it’s far from the first time Gosling and Ferrell have worked together in a comedic setting. The two shared screen time in “Barbie”, where Gosling earned an Oscar nomination for his role as Ken and Ferrell played the bumbling Mattel CEO.

They also went viral for their recurring “Knife Guys” sketch on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, playing knife salesmen in a spoof QVC segment that poked fun at Trump-branded products. Dressed in red “Make Knives Great Again” hats, the duo showed off gold “Trump Knives” while joking, “That Trump knife is huge,” Gosling said, with Ferrell adding, “And sharp, like the man himself.” The bit ended with Gosling choking on a Trump Steak, needing a Heimlich assist from Jimmy Kimmel Source: The Hollywood Reporter.

The new film also cleverly nods to their “Guys” legacy — Gosling led “The Nice Guys” (2016) and “The Fall Guy” (2024), while Ferrell starred in “The Other Guys” (2010). With “Tough Guys”, the pair returns to a familiar lane with a brand-new spin.

Fans React to the Casting With Hilarious ‘Guys’ References

News of the film’s announcement quickly lit up social media, with fans making clever nods to the actors’ past roles and sketch appearances.

“Fall Guy, Nice Guys, Tough Guys — Ryan Gosling collecting guys like infinity stones,” one user wrote in a viral Instagram comment. Another chimed in, “So, a guy from The Nice Guys will partner with a guy from The Other Guys to play in a movie called Tough Guys. Ok, I’m sold 😂.”

Some fans even referenced their “Knife Guys” sketch. One post on X read, “Will they be selling knives???”

Others expressed excitement over the comedic pairing, with one fan writing, “2 great actors? Say less, excited for this!”Though “Tough Guys” is still in early development, the announcement has already sparked buzz around what’s next for the fan-favorite duo. More casting and production updates are expected to follow.
