Injured Yankees Star Makes Major Personal Announcement

Oswaldo Cabrera has way more free time than he expected this summer. So he decided to put some of it to good use.

The New York Yankees utility player recently got married to his girlfriends Ari Gonzalez while in a walking boot while he recovers from his gruesome, season-ending injury.

Cabrera fractured his ankle at T-Mobile Park in Seattle in May while sliding into home plate. The injury is likely to cost the primary third baseman the rest of the season, since he had surgery on his ankle May 18.

Cabrera was slashing .243/.322/.308 with one home run and 11 RBIs in 34 games. The Yankees were 20-10 in games Cabrera started.

Who Is Ari Gonzalez, Oswaldo Cabrera’s Now-Wife?

Cabrera and his now-wife Ari Gonzalez were married at a ceremony in Tampa, Florida.

The event, which took place during MLB All-Star week, was attended by close friends and family, including Cabrera’s agent Brandon Steiner and Yankees limited partner Bill Rose.

“I want to congratulate two of my favorite people in this world,” Steiner shared in a post on Instagram. “To a lifetime of happiness and joy, which I know you both provide the world with plenty of. A special night I’ll never forget. Love you both very much!”

“Love these two so much,” Rose shared on Instagram. “What a beautiful couple.”

Per her Instagram profile, Gonzalez is a New York-based nutrition and health coach, and she regularly shares videos of her workouts on the social-media platform where she has more than 9,100 followers — and has gained much more since their recent nuptials.

She and Cabrera have been together since at least 2023. Cabrera proposed to Gonzalez in March, also in Tampa, while they were there for Yankees spring training — Cabrera was scratched from a spring-training game that day with what Yankees manager Aaron Boone called “an illness.”

Perhaps it was just the love bug.

When Is Oswaldo Cabrera Coming Back To The Yankees?

Cabrera is projected to miss the rest of the regular season and postseason due to his ankle injury, which has left a hole at third base, where Cabrera made all 30 of his starts this season.

Cabrera’s absence led to Jazz Chisholm Jr. to first try his hand back at third base, but his defensive struggles, coupled with D.J. LeMahieu’s age and lack of mobility, led Chisholm back to second base after LeMahieu was designated for assignment.

That opened the door for Oswald Peraza at third, but Peraza’s offensive struggles have been noticeable. Peraza has just a -0.1 WAR this year and is slashing just .149/.213/.243 in 160 plate appearances.

So with Cabrera likely to return to the Yankees third base spot next year — and his seemingly unlimited versatility, since he plays nearly every position — they are likely to target a third baseman via a trade-deadline deal.

Eugenio Suarez, who like Cabrera hails from Venezuela, seems like the most natural fit for New York. The veteran third baseman is fourth in the majors in home runs (31) — behind only Cal Raleigh, Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani — and boasts an .889 OPS.
