The New York Yankees showed some major flaws during the past few weeks heading into the All-Star break, and will look to improve that as the second half gets going on Friday, July 18.Â
Unfortunately, however, those worries won’t go away for any Yankees fans. Until they see this team win a World Series, there will be question marks about what their offense will do come October. The Yankees’ offense was non-existent for much of the past month, and it’s something the front office will have to fix at the trade deadline.Â
There will be a few ways for them to do so, and FanSided recently noted an interesting one by trading for Ryan O’Hearn of the Baltimore Orioles. FanSided noted that while intra-division trades might be uncommon, he’d fit in well in the Yankees’ lineup.Â
âThat 175-foot wall (not an official number) in right field at Yankee Stadium is ultra-friendly to left-handed power hitters and Ryan O’Hearn certainly fits that description. He’d be a happy hitter in the Bronx, and he’s mashed against the Yankees in his career, too.
âA scorching start slowed to a big of a sluggish stretch before All-Star and now the Yankees find themselves two games out of the top spot in the AL East and just one game ahead of Boston for third. Adding O’Hearn wouldn’t be a luxury move, it would be one of necessity for the Bombers,â he wrote.
O’Hearn on Fire in 2025
O’Hearn has been around this game for quite some time now, but is arguably having his best season yet.Â
He played in Atlanta during the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, earning a starting nod for the American League squad. In the first half, he hit .286 with 11 home runs, driving in 34.Â
He was one of the better left-handed hitters in baseball.
O’Hearn addressed the trade rumors that he’s been hearing, as they’ve been prevalent, with MLB.com.
âIâm trying to be where my feet are, focus on one day at a time with the guys in the locker room in Baltimore,â OâHearn said. âI love them and I want to be with them, but at the same time, I understand itâs a business and this happens every year. Guys get traded around this time, so this is just part of it.â
Orioles Fire Sale
O’Hearn isn’t the only one the Baltimore Orioles will likely look to trade. According to MLB.com, the focus for the Orioles, which is good news for the New York Yankees in more ways than one, as they don’t want to have to worry about Baltimore sneaking into contention, will be retooling for 2026.Â
âGiven their place in the standings, the Orioles are shaping up to be sellers at this yearâs Trade Deadline. While the focus is likely to be on retooling for 2026 rather than rebuilding, Baltimore’s list of trade candidates could be fairly robust. The Orioles have a glut of attractive assets on expiring contracts, including center fielder Cedric Mullins, starters Zach Eflin and Tomoyuki Sugano and relievers Seranthony DomÃnguez and Gregory Soto. And, yes, O’Hearn as well,â MLB.com wrote.
OâHearn might not be the best fit because he’s a left-handed hitter, as the Yankees need a right-handed hitter, but it’d still be an intriguing addition considering he has a 139 OPS+ and has swung the bat at a high level over the past three years.
