LAS VEGAS — The Clippers dug themselves a deep hole with a poor second quarter and never recovered, losing to the Memphis Grizzlies, 105-82, in the NBA Summer League finale for both teams on Sunday at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Jordan Miller capped a strong summer showing with 24 points and six rebounds while shooting 8 for 11 from the field to lead the Clippers (3-2), and Cam Christie added 15 points and five rebounds. Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Juwan Gary each had 10 points.
The Clippers led 23-22 after the first quarter but were outscored 33-11 in the second to trail by 21 points at halftime. The deficit grew to 27 points after three quarters, as Memphis (2-3) refused to let the Clippers mount a comeback.
The Grizzlies outshot the Clippers from the field (46.1% to 39.4%) and made nearly twice as many 3-points (15) as the Clippers (eight). Memphis held a slim rebounding advantage (40-36) and was helped by the Clippers’ 20 turnovers.
Tyler Burton had 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting and seven rebounds to pace the Grizzlies, while Javon Small had 17 points (on 5-of-9 shooting), four rebounds and nine assists. Nate Hinton added 15 points (on 5-of-6 shooting) and six rebounds. Will Magnay had nine points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Small, Hinton and Aaron Estrada Jr. each made three 3-point shots.
The Clippers started 3-0 in Las Vegas, beating the Houston Rockets, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Lakers, before dropping games against Denver and the Grizzlies.
