San Jose: Man killed in weekend stabbing downtown

SAN JOSE — A man died after he was stabbed on a downtown street early Sunday, police said.

Police officers were called at 12:51 a.m. for a report of a stabbing on South Second Street near San Fernando Street, according to a San Jose Police Department news release.

Officers arrived to find a man suffering from at least one stab wound; he was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries, police said. His name has not been publicly released, pending his formal identification and notification of his next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office.

The person who stabbed the man left before officers arrived and has not been identified. Police said Monday that the victim was “involved in a physical confrontation prior to the stabbing and believe the incident may have been recorded on cellphone video by several uninvolved bystanders.”

The death is the city’s 15th homicide of the year investigated by San Jose police. The city recorded 19 homicides by the same point in 2024.
