David Letterman used his own words while voicing his opinion in the wake of CBS cancelling âThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert.â The legendary late-night host shared a 20-minute compilation of past clips in which he criticized the network and its decisions during his time as host of the iconic late-night talk show.
Letterman Releases New Video
To show his support for Stephen Colbert after the networkâs announcement to put an end to âThe Late Showâ franchise, Letterman released a new YouTube video, which was titled âCBS: The Tiffany Network.â
The 20-minute video, which was captioned, âYou canât spell CBS without BS,â features clips from 1994, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 during episodes in which Letterman was the host.
In one clip, Letterman can be seen calling out the network after they removed the NFL from its airwaves. He shared some new fake slogans for the network, which included âCould be sold,â âCBS, now on Fox,â and âMore powerful than the Weather Channel!â
Letterman joked in another clip about how the network wasnât even sure how long âThe Late Showâ had been on air. âThey donât know and they donât care ⦠I donât want to get in trouble here, but Iâm gonna call the CBS switchboard and see if they know how long weâve been on air,â Letterman said. âMaybe Iâm overreacting.â
Another clip shows Letterman holding up a copy of USA Today that had a CBS ad on it promoting âNCIS,â âThe Unit,â and âCane.â However, the ad failed to mention his show. He joked, âIf you look way, way down here,â pointing to a tiny note about âThe Late Showâsâ guests for that evening.
The Late Night Support Continues
Lettermanâs video comes just days after CBS announced it will end âThe Late Showâ for supposed financial issues at the network. However, there have been many people criticizing the decision, especially since the announcement came days after Colbert criticized the parent company of the networkâs decision to agree to a settlement with President Donald Trump.
Colbertâs old boss, Jon Stewart, voiced his opinion about the cancellation during his opening monologue on âThe Daily Showâ on Monday, July 21, 2025.
Other late-night hosts joined in their support, as Colbert made his return to âThe Late Showâ stage last night after making the big announcement last week. After his monologue, the host surprised the audience with a special performance by Lin-Manuel Miranda and âWeird Alâ Yankovic, who sang Coldplayâs âViva la Vidaâ to cheer up the audience.
However, it turned into a spoof of the now-viral Jumbotron moment from Coldplayâs concert on July 18, where the Astronomer CEO was caught cheating on his wife on the kiss cam.For Colbertâs spoof of the incident, he had hilarious âcouplesâ from the late-night and comedy world in the audience as Miranda and Yankovich panned to the audience. Those couples included Anderson Cooper & Andy Cohen, Jimmy Fallon & Seth Meyers, and Jon Stewart & John Oliver.
