Warriors’ Kuminga Trade Talk With West Rival Overblown

Jonathan Kuminga’s future with the Golden State Warriors remains unsettled. But while sign-and-trade rumors continue to swirl, at least one team may not be as deep in talks as originally believed.

At the start of free agency, Sam Amick reported that the Sacramento Kings were among the teams interested in Kuminga. But a new report suggests that the narrative may have been overstated.

“Much like a lot of the stuff going on over the last month — little overblown,” Carmichael Dave of Sactown Sports 1140 AM Radio revealed. “It’s like the Kings being in advanced talks on Jonathan Kuminga. They were never in advanced talks on Jonathan Kuminga. They were two teams kicking tires.”

He added, “I could see Kuminga’s camp or other teams’ camps saying certain things.”

That perspective reflects what’s been reported elsewhere — that the Warriors are open to moving Kuminga, but only for the right price. Jake Fischer previously noted that Golden State is seeking a first-round pick in any sign-and-trade involving the 22-year-old forward.

Golden State Weighing Sign-and-Trade Offers for Kuminga

The Chicago Bulls have also been in discussions, reportedly centering talks around Ayo Dosunmu in a possible return. However, no deal appears close — and the gap between what Kuminga wants and what Golden State is offering remains significant.

Kuminga is said to be seeking a four-year deal worth around $30 million annually. The Warriors are reportedly offering closer to $20 million per year over three seasons — a contract they believe would be more movable at the deadline if things don’t work out.

The expectation earlier this summer was that Kuminga would be traded. But as the weeks pass, the market has thinned, and Golden State has not found a deal they like.

Kuminga, for his part, has shown flashes of high-level play. He averaged 15.3 points in the 2025 playoffs and stepped up big during Stephen Curry‘s injury absence. In the Western Conference Semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves, he had two 20+ point games and dropped 30 in Game 3.

Still, his limitations — spotty defense, shaky fit in Steve Kerr‘s motion offense — remain. For now, the Kings are reportedly out. And until someone meets Golden State’s asking price, Kuminga stays put.
