During the 2024 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills made an interesting move, trading the No. 28 pick to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for the No. 32 pick.
Many NFL fans and analysts couldn’t believe the Bills would trade with the Chiefs after what Kansas City has done to Buffalo, taking care of them in almost every postseason since 2020.
Bills Made A Big Time Trade With The Chiefs
The Bills were also the team that traded with the Chiefs during the 2017 NFL Draft, which helped Kansas City land quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The Bills have had little to no luck against Kansas City for almost a decade, and of course, things didn’t change last year.
Both Buffalo and Kansas City needed receivers entering last year’s draft. Kansas City took Texas speed receiver Xavier Worthy with the pick they acquired from Buffalo.
In 17 games last year, Worthy recorded 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns, helping lead the Chiefs to another AFC title by beating the Bills.
Mahomes looks like he has gotten his star receiver of the future in Worthy, and much of that had to do with the Bills trading their pick.
Buffalo also drafted a receiver with their first-round pick last April, taking Florida State’s Keon Coleman with the 33rd pick after trading pick No. 32 to the Carolina Panthers.
Coleman only appeared in 13 games last season due to an injury, but has shown flashes of being able to play at the next level, recording 29 receptions for 556 yards and four scores.
The 22-year-old receiver needs to take a step in his second season, but so far through the first few days of training camp, Coleman hasn’t looked like he’s ready to break out.
Keon Coleman Named Week 1 Training Camp “Loser”
It’s too early to tell how Coleman will do in year 2, but Marcus Mosher of Fansided has named Coleman a week 1 training camp “loser” for his performance this past week.
“It’s hard to call anyone a “loser” after three non-padded practices, but Keon Coleman just hasn’t taken the sophomore leap yet. And the keyword there is “yet” because it could happen at any moment. But it’s been more of the same for Coleman, who continues to be a widely inconsistent player,” Mosher wrote. “According to Joe Buscaglia, Coleman has struggled with drops early in camp and has called him “maddingly inconsistent.” That isn’t a great sign, considering that Buffalo needs Coleman to be a reliable option if he is going to earn more targets.
Again, it’s essential to remember that we are only a handful of practices in, and the pads haven’t even been put on yet. However, it’s safe to assume the Bills were hoping to see more from Coleman so far during camp.”
Coleman still has a long way to go to improve, but playing with quarterback Josh Allen should help him become the best possible receiver.
Allen has transformed a handful of receivers into great players, such as Khalil Shakir, and there is no reason why he can’t do the same for the former Florida State playmaker.
