The Tennessee Titans have nowhere to go but up. After a dismal 3-14 season that landed them the No. 1-overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Titans still don’t have lot to hang their hat on offensively (they had the second-ranked defense in the NFL last year, but we’ll leave that alone for now).
They do have a shiny new quarterback in Cam Ward from the University of Miami and wide receiver Calvin Ridley returns for his second season with the team. The Titans are really going to have to hold out hope that these two can make a connection.
ESPN’s Turron Davenport spoke to Ridley this weekend.
“I’ve never seen a receiver practice with the amount of urgency that you practice with. Why is it so important for you to go for every rep like it’s your last?,” he asked.
“It’s really at this point for the timing of Cam because I’m not really ever gonna jog off the ball,” Ridley replied. “He’ll know that we’re gonna come off that ball. We’re just gonna speed off the ball so he knows where to put it.”
Ridley and Ward are forming a connection
Ridley is clearly the A1 wide receiver on the Titan’s roster. They brought in veteran Tyler Lockett and he’ll help, but he’s 32-years old and was never a guy that kept defensive coordinators awake at night.
According to Rotowire on CBS Sports, the duo connected on some big plays this weekend.
“Ridley caught several deep passes from Cameron Ward during Saturday’s practice, Nick Suss of The Tennessean reports,” writes Rotowire staff.
“Ward aired out several deep pass attempts during the practice session, hitting Ridley on a 40-yard shot as he was covered by Roger McCreary. Ridley also made a diving catch later on another deep route, displaying rapport early on in camp with his rookie quarterback. Given the projected improved offensive line and quarterback play around him in 2025, Ridley should be in a good position to post his third consecutive 1,000 receiving-yard season.”
I’m not in the business of giving out fantasy football advice, but here’s some fantasy football advice. Ridley is by far the No. 1 option in this offense. If anyone is going to put up points in Nashville, it’s Ridley.
Ridley says Ward throws a nice ball
Ridley pointed out a play in Saturday’s practice where Ward ran to his left and floated a deep ball that dropped comfortably in the former first-round pick’s hands.
“See that touch he had on it,” Ridley said. “You give me time to run under. It’s easy catches. So that’s what I love about it. It’s not hard catches. He has some touch. He let me run right under it and it was soft. So that’s all the receiver ever wanted man.”
Ridley caught 64 balls last year for 1,017 yards and four touchdowns. That’s with quarterback play that can’t be considered anything more than horrific. But, Will Levis may never play for the Titans again after his recent surgery and if Ward resembles anything close to competent, Ridley should have a nice year.
The Titans have nowhere to go but up.
