A teen boy who became upset after losing a fistfight returned and opened fire, hitting five teenagers late Sunday on the West Side, leaving a 14-year-old critically hurt, police said.
About 11:25 p.m. the shooter became involved in a fight and argument with one of the five victims, all of whom he knows, in the 700 block of South Springfield Avenue, according to a police report.
After getting maced, the shooter grabbed a gun and opened fire on the group, hitting five teens between 13 and 15 years old, according to the report.
- A 14-year-old boy was shot in his chest and taken to Stroger Hospital where he was in critical condition.
- A 13-year-old boy was shot in his right thigh and is listed in fair condition at Stroger.
- A girl, 16, was shot multiple times in her body and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition.
- A 15-year-old girl was shot in her leg and listed in good condition at Stroger.
- A fifth victim, a 16-year-old boy, suffered a graze wound to his right palm and was in good condition at a hospital, according to a police report.
Nearly a dozen shell casings were recovered, and the shooter was not in custody.
Area 4 detectives are investigating.
