Patrick Mahomes Just Got Some Disappointing News and Fans Think It Has to Be a ‘Joke’

Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs looks on before the game against the Cleveland Browns at Huntington Bank Field on December 15, 2024 in Cleveland, Ohio

The release of “Madden NFL 26” ratings has stirred controversy—and one name’s absence is at the center of it all: Patrick Mahomes. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, often considered one of the greatest to ever play the game, was notably excluded from the elite “99 Club,” a designation reserved for players with the highest possible rating in EA Sports’ annual football video game.

Madden NFL 26’s 99 Club Snubs Patrick Mahomes, Fans React

Mahomes, 29, had been included in the “99 Club” four times. With two Super Bowl wins, two MVP titles, and a playoff legacy that includes an appearance in the AFC Championship every year he has been a starter, many assumed he’d easily make the cut again. But when the 2026 roster dropped, Mahomes was missing.

Instead, the players who earned the top honor included Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Ja’Marr Chase, Saquon Barkley, Justin Jefferson, Myles Garrett, and Lane Johnson.

“Lol not Mahomes. What a joke,” one fan posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. Another asked, “How does Mahomes not make that team??”

Even BetOnline weighed in, tweeting, “Mahomes ain’t gonna like this.”

The snub stings even more considering Mahomes remains the face of the league and is widely considered the quarterback to beat in the AFC. Despite his exclusion from the “99 Club,” reports suggest his Madden rating likely sits at 98 or just below.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ QB1 Still Tops Other Player Rankings

While Madden NFL 26 might have knocked him down a peg, other organizations continue to place Mahomes at the top. CBS Sports named him the No. 1 player in its Top 100 Players of 2025 list, while an ESPN poll of NFL executives, coaches, and scouts also ranked him No. 1.

His snub is even more surprising considering his recent appearance in the Madden NFL 25 99 Club, alongside Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Christian McCaffrey, and Trent Williams.

Still, the “Madden 99 Club” has always been a conversation starter—especially when it comes to player rankings and fan loyalty. For Mahomes, who’s known for staying focused on the field rather than off-screen chatter, the omission may ultimately fuel his fire.

As Kelce once joked on the New Heights podcast, “You never want to (expletive) off Pat—he turns into a machine.”
