Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs is one of the greatest tight ends of all time. But, at 35, he’s also getting up there in age for a player in the NFL, which means that he’s looking to the future and what he’ll do after football wraps up. Of course, football will always be a part of his life, but there will come a day when he retires from the NFL and starts new ventures.
During the offseason, Kelce dabbled in other areas, as always. He hosts a podcast called “New Heights” with his brother, Jason. But, one area that Kelce seems to really want to excel in after he leaves the NFL is acting.
Now, Kelce is one step closer to that dream of being a star actor after the response that he’s getting from his “Happy Gilmore 2” appearance. As it turns out, the director of the show has some strong words for Kelce.
Travis Kelce Was ‘Fantastic’
Pretty much everyone is aware that Kelce makes a cameo appearance with Adam Sandler in “Happy Gilmore 2.” It’s been one of the most talked-about aspects of the film.

The film was directed by Kyle Newacheck, and when asked about the football player’s acting performance, Newacheck had glowing words for the tight end. “Kelce was fantastic,” the director told People magazine in an interview published on July 24. “He’s a hard worker, and he wanted to do right by the film… everybody did.” He added, “I think Kelce’s just so charismatic.”
Newacheck went on to discuss what helped impress him about the boyfriend of Taylor Swift. “He just is so funny,” he said. “You want to be around him, and he’s an entertainer.”
Plus, being a star football player has actually helped Kelce with his acting chops. “He’s an athlete, so he knows the moment,” Newacheck said, adding, “He knows how to perform in the moment.” Finally, the director added that the NFL player has a “natural charisma” that he felt, stating, “I loved it.”
Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs is Still a Solid Tight End
Most of Kelce’s acting days are likely in the future. Right now, he’s back with the Kansas City Chiefs on the field. In a July 11 feature for ESPN, Jeremy Fowler names the top 10 best tight ends in the league, and Kelce is No. 5. He was No. 1 last season, but five is still great.
“The back-to-back tight end king fell well short of first place after signs of decline surfaced in 2024,” Fowler noted. “Most of that can be chalked up to age. Kelce turns 36 in October and has played nearly 200 games over 12 years, including playoffs.” He added, “Kelce is still dangerous in the red zone, where he turned 26 targets into 19 catches for 106 yards and three scores. He still led the Chiefs in targets (133) last season.”
In the piece, one NFC executive said of Kelce, “He’s still awesome. It might not look as exotic as he used to, but you still look up and he’s got nine for 70.”
So, Kelce is still a stellar player on the field. He’ll pose a problem for any team against him.
