With just over a week before the new Premier League season starts, Isak’s future is up in the air, with the striker keen on a move to Anfield.
The Magpies rejected Liverpool’s opening bid of £110m, but the Reds could make an improved offer before the transfer window closes, especially if they cash-in on Darwin Nunez.
Isak missed Newcastle’s pre-season tour, citing a thigh injury, and held showdown talks with manager Eddie Howe on Monday.
It is the latest drama in what has been a nightmare summer for Newcastle who have missed out on numerous transfer targets including Joao Pedro, James Trafford, Bryan Mbeumo and Hugo Ekitike.

With the deadline looming, they are now hoping to get a rare win and revenge on the Reds by signing a player they failed to acquire last year: Marc Guehi.

Newcastle made three bids for Guehi last summer, all of which fell short of Palace’s £70m asking price and are back in for a right-sided centre-back after a move for Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini fell through.
Spurs did meet Palace’s valuation in January but left it far too late in the window for the Eagles to consider a sale.
It is said the South London side have dropped their asking price to £50m – £10m more than both Liverpool and Newcastle want to spend on the defender who has entered the last year of his contract and is not expected to sign a new one.

Guehi joined Palace from Chelsea four years ago in a transfer worth £18m, with the Blues to bank 20 per cent of whatever profit Oliver Glasner’s side make on him.
The 25-year-old is considered one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League and lead the Eagles to FA Cup glory last season.
